  Our local in-depth reporting, multimedia projects, events and newsletters are available to the community at no cost, with no paywall.

  Austin Current is a community newsroom focused on providing Austin-area residents with the knowledge and context they need to navigate daily life. Our core coverage areas include education, communities and government, and growth and development, and our local reporting team provides deep, factual and relevant coverage on a wide range of issues across the community.

• Is Austin Current a nonprofit?

  Yes, Austin Current is a publication of The Texas Tribune, a nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) nonprofit media organization, and all contributions to The Texas Tribune are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law (U.S. federal tax ID is 26-4527097).

• How is Austin Current funded?

  Austin Current is financially supported by a diversified business model that includes major donations from individuals and foundations, corporate sponsorships, a membership program, and other revenue streams. Editorial decisions are made by our journalists alone and are not influenced by donors.

• Does Austin Current have any local partners?

  Austin Current is part of The Texas Tribune’s network of editorially independent local newsrooms aimed at filling information gaps on the community level and building trust, and collaborating with other media organizations to strengthen Austin’s news ecosystem. The Current is currently partnering with KUT News on “Austin Signal,” a new 30-minute news show, Austin PBS’ “Austin Insight,” a weekly program covering local people and issues and is actively expanding local partnerships to advance our mission.
