Last week (Wednesday) there was a breach at the Rend Lake Conservancy - which is where we get water. It took them 35 hours to get it fixed. We were hearing horror stories about how Marion was going to lose water - they didn't. My district turned off their water on Thursday and we got it back on Friday.
Thursday night I took a bath and washed my hair in trash cans - we have Justin's old water cooler that he brought back to our house after he got a new refrigerator with water and ice - so we didn't have much of an issue.
It affected anywhere from 160,000 to 175,000 people. I had heard 175k, then the next article said 160k, so I'm just going to range it.
Today the boil water orders started to lift.
Work freaking sucked on Friday and Saturday. We had 3 huge pots of water boiling all day. We were serving on paper for the tenants, but still had to wash serving spoons, pans, salad bar bowls, etc. For two nights in a row, I couldn't get the stopper to stay in the wash sink, so I was having to wash in the rinse sink, transfer pans to the wash sink, dump boiling water on the dishes to rinse, then use tongs (or burn my hands forgetting that they were hot) to transfer to the sanitizer. Thank God, I only had to deal 3 days of that nonsense. I've been off the last 2.
You don't realize how much water that you use until you can't.
My diet has gone by the wayside while this was going on - I'd already fallen off it, but Friday I took off to Target and got cream cheese wontons and a key lime pie and pigged out. Today, I had my first soda in 18 days.
