Respect: Throughout Time

Thank you goes to Linda for her idea of bringing us together for this

Time Machine Blogging Challenge.

Directions: Pick a time in your life that was critical to your development. You can go back or forwards in time. It can be real or imagined. After all, it is real if you imagine it!

Choose an idea or a skill or a value you hold dear in the present and infuse it into that time period.

Share your story of what happens to positively impact your life.

Stepping in The Time Machine I am in 1997:

“The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.”
Ralph Waldo Emerson

True Story

The Television cameras were pointing at me as my turn came around the table to speak up, in front of me was President Chandrika Kumaratunga. Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga As The President of Sri Lanka.jpgShe had a wonderful green sari on and was smiling profusely. My mouth went dry, was I really in Sri Lanka?

How had I arrived here? was this really me about to take my turn to speak?

Time stopped as I took a breath and my mind went blank!

I had travelled a long way upon my journey Sometimes our ‘Journey’ takes us along various routes and detours but each road is one of discovery

Time travel back to 1969:

But Dad, I don’t want to work in a factory”, can’t I go to art college?”.. I wanted to say, but I knew it was worthless, even my teacher had tried to persuade my parents about further education, but to no avail. I had to respect my Dad’s wishes, that was how it was.

I was the eldest of 5 siblings and I was needed to bring in a wage, and the factories brought in the best wages.. And it was either the sewing factory or the Poultry factory; both had been on our  girls school antennary to visit in our last term as we were given ideas for career paths.

The slaughtering of chickens had sickened me, and the stench of it had stayed in my nostrils the whole day. No way was I going to work there!.

So at the age of 15 I left school to embark upon the next step of life out in the big wide world. I was plunged into an alien world of whirring machines, learning new names for them as well as new skills to operate them .

I would learn to mask my embarrassment of the more forward thinking girls, and laugh with a grin upon my face while noticeably turning red over their teasing  of a shy girl..

I would learn to master many skills within the textile trade over the next 30 years, and I would wear many hats with many names within the clothing industry, From machinist, I climbed through the various ranks to Training Manager. During this time I also held the title of Mrs, and Mum, to two children with a Mum break of around 5 years in between.

The one trait that got me through all of those years was to Respect all as  equals. No one was lesser or more than myself. I didn’t adopt habits of swearing or cursing and surprisingly in every place I have worked, while being very open minded, as I can laugh along with the rest over a good joke, others would always curb their language when I was around and would respect my dislike of its use. I could also communicate with top executives and was not afraid to voice  respectful opinions and ideas to help production costs

I ran many teams over the years putting in new styles, and would overhear some wonderful stories, that would make your hair curl Smile  and it would often make me smile when I walked back and forth to hear conversations alter as girls would say “watch your language Sue’s about!”.. I would never expect anyone to do something I couldn’t achieve myself, and would sit at any machine on the factory floor and work for long lengths of time to show girls I could earn my money in the minutes provided in Piece-Work. And if I couldn’t I would get it retimed.. ( as I was the one with the stop watch!) Winking smile

I would act as negotiator in Union disputes and always tried to treat others fairly. Earning the respect of both parties involved.  I would hire, and yes at times have to fire, I would represent Industry as we linked with Education and took pride in being part of the first Business and Education Partnerships in schools, which helped create links for work experience for students in our area. I would put on fashion shows which I helped students design and then sew under supervision in our factories.. Life was Full on..

So began the mutual respect between us, and I was pleased to call this real Team-Working at its best.

“I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.”
Albert Einstein

A collection of memories

A collection of memories

Fast-forward to 1997: I was back in the room with camera pointing straight at me

The day had  already been non-stop. I was here on a business trip and for this first week I was part of the London Chamber of Commerce Trade delegation, we had been to a lavish reception the evening before at the British High Commission in Colombo, And had visited a wonderful building in the morning where the prices of Tea had been bought and sold to listen to someone else speak.

I cleared my throat,… the person next to me finished what they were saying and I took a sip of water. I began speaking my rehearsed lines, but the only thing I could hear was the drumming in my ears from the pounding of my heart.

“ My name is……… and I am the Training Manager for…………… We have Nine Divisions World Wide and employ at the present time 2,980 people. We are here to familiarise ourselves with current sewing training, and to meet with local colleagues in Sri Lanka. We are also here to familiarise’ ( I knew I was repeating myself and I could feel my colour rise ) ‘ourselves with training cultures with the view to source training availabilities by visiting colleges.”

I turned to my colleague M, who was the Training Development Executive for help, and she then took over to fill in with more details; the next delegate spoke as the cameraman turned his lens on them. The whole event was surreal.

The month prior we had nearly cancelled our visit due to a bomb exploding in the Capital of Colombo by the Tamil Tigers. To be honest thinking back I never had given the world of politics much heed, so wrapped up within my own world of work had I been. It would be later I would find out more about this fascinating Woman before me in the Green Sari  and how tragedy had struck her  different members of her family and how later another bomb explosion was to take her sight of one eye. I have huge respect for this lady.

The warmth of everyone I met  in Sri Lanka had a huge impact upon me for  along while to come.. I saw how the other half lived as they washed their clothes in the river, and saw how many lived on so little. I saw the rubbish piles on the streets in our travels, and the heavy carts both people and cows pulled along. I marvelled how the children walked to school all neat and tidy in their uniforms, and held my breath often as we travelled the long distances to our Factory bases along roads where no rules seemed to apply, and where Cows  were the only ones who seemed to have rights of way.

What struck me beyond any thing else, was that most of the time the people smiled.. They were courteous and respectful and even though they had nothing much their happiness radiated out and was contagious..

I saw the contrast of how the rich lived with the lavishness splashed out for those in business at the reception we were given in the British High Commission and the poverty so many endured just a few miles away.

For those of you who may be thinking our firm exploited these girls, let me say their factory conditions were newer and better than our own in the UK, They were purpose built on new industrial sites.  We were there to help set up training which would get these sewing machinists recognised as skilled machinist, Ours were not the sweat shops we see all too often on foreign shores..  Many families relying on their incomes and our firm also provided free medical care which extended to their immediate families.

I left the industry for good in 2004, it was to be the same year that the Earth quake hit on Boxing Day December 26th. Where thousands perished.  I remember sending my colleagues messages. And later learnt many who had worked within my old company had lost their lives that day.   I took with me the respect I have always had for others and applied it within my daily life.. Both with people and with Nature and our Animal Kingdom..

If we  all of us had more respect for each other the world would not be as it is today, I have great respect for all throughout all walks of life..

Its up to each of us to learn to respect not only others but to remember to also respect ourselves

We are all of us worthy of respect!

Regardless of what backgrounds we have come from or what religion we follow or the colour of our skin

WE ARE ONE

People Power~ Making a Difference

Following up from my last post The Future~ Standing as One with Nature today a success story from Germany over stopping some open cast mining for fossil fuels.. All be it will be temporary.

 While I admire Germany for a program for phasing out its nuclear plants after the Fukushima nuclear disaster by 2022. Germany has a good record for renewable energy and is investing more in solar and wind .  But during this transition they are continuing cutting great swathes of land in open mining for fossil fuels using Brown Coal the dirtiest form of fossil fuel,.. More can be found here about how Brown coal wins a reprieve in Germany’s transition to a green future

In the mean time well done to this group of people who led the way in showing some People Power in Action saying enough is enough..

In my Email box this morning came this Newsletter

Dear friends,

Today over 1,500 people woke up with reflections of a momentous and emotional weekend. On Saturday over a thousand people — with the support of hundreds more — entered the Garweiler open-pit coal mine in Germany and stopped the work of the world’s biggest diggers in their tracks.

You can watch the success here.

It wasn’t an easy task, but we can be proud of the courage of activists, organisers and support structures that made this happen. The swell of solidarity that came in from around the world showed us that we are not in this fight alone and meant a lot to the people who participated.

Over the coming weeks there will be more reflections, photos and stories coming in, and we hope we can count on you to share the story so the world knows what our movement is building.

We said “Ende Gelände – Here and No Further!” and we succeeded.

Thanks so much for your support – it means a lot to many people,

Emma on behalf 350.org

 I hope you will feel free to share.

Love and Blessings

~Sue~

The Future ~ Standing as One with Nature

Wake up to Nature.

Wake up and savour the beauties that abound,

Wake up and honour all life that is around.

We take you for granted, even the air we breathe

Take time to look at the blossoms on the trees

~~

Look deep into a flower and see the wonders there

Take time to stop and listen to birds in the air..

Watch the glistening water, ripple over stones

Be thankful for the morning, these gifts and our homes

~~

We take Nature for granted, as she bestows these gifts for free

It’s up to us to look after her, for she’s there for you and me.

What if one day you awoke, and the air you breathed were black?

What happens if nature decides she is fighting back

~~

And no longer shall the bees pollinate the crops

And no longer will the rain give you those pure drops

Open your eyes, for we work hand in glove

Wake Up, and be thankful, For Nature needs our love

The Lyrics of this Song can be found HERE along with more information about  Xiuhtezcatl Martinez, a 15 year old youth leader with the non-governmental group Earth Guardians. who wrote “Speak for the Trees” was written in the summer of 2014.

Thank you to Brad whose post Awesome Stories connected me with this young man and his endeavours to enlighten people about taking action into caring for our Planet Earth.

I was impressed with this young man as he said in one of his videos

” The Biggest Challenge  we face is shifting Human Consciousness not saving the planet Because you know the planet doesn’t need saving,

but we do..”

And   Xiuhtezcatl  is right.. Mother Earth Will eventually heal from all that we have done to her.. But will we still be a species upon her?

We Are the Light!

I was listening again to this music and I was reminded of a what I wrote back in 2009, in the form of the poem below, I wrote it on the beach while visiting the ocean I looked on as children played in the sand.

Our Children Learn by example

Lets set them some good foundations to Grow with.

They are our future and our Light in the world… Teach them the ways of Unity,  Acceptance, Tolerance, and PEACE..

And allow them to learn about Earth Law,  And learn about legal Law..I had drafted this post last evening and as synchronicites conspired, . Today  I read Paul’s post on Learning From Dogs . And found on his post a video about The Children’s Climate Crusade

For it will be our children who have to pick up all the mess we adults are leaving behind us.

I  hope you find time to go and watch the video posted there.

~~~~~
Let Our Children Grow
I breathe deep breaths of salt sea air
The breeze does blow, playing with my hair
Children’s laugh and play in sand
A moment’s pause, in make-believe land.
As time stands still, I watch unseen
As families join this loving scene
Where sandcastles are built, with children’s smiles
The ocean is clear and smooth for miles
All so innocent, all so young
Unaware of life to come
Moments so precious, never to return
As memories of yesteryear I yearn.
A time when my children full of life
Not knowing that heartache could cut like a knife.
A time when life was simple and plain
Not knowing we each carry this pain.
I see so much, yet dare not tell
Shaking away dreams, I must not dwell.
So for now I freeze this moment in space
Sending out prayers for the Human Race.
These children whose laughter echoes in my ears
Are our future and hopes for all we hold dear.
So teach them to live, to love, and be free
We each play our part, meaning you and me.
Teach them to follow what lies in their heart
For material possessions we shall soon part
The values of life are not kept in the bank
For soon they will know, to the depth man has sank.
Disarm them with kindness, make them aware
That the future is in their hands, we need to share.
Let them know this Earth needs to heal
That All things Are possible, where nothing is real.
Help heal our world, Let our children grow
With knowledge of Love.. Let hatred go.
Tomorrow comes around, to those who wait
Help Our Children, Let’s not leave till too late.
Invictus Games–My Tribute.
invictus-banner-4
After watching much of the Invictus Games over the past few days I have been in awe of these men and women who have shown such courage and determination in overcoming their tragic circumstances. Many of their stories brought tears to my eyes. Not only have they had to overcome their physical injuries, but they and others who have suffered such trauma have had to over come their mental barriers which often can take more healing than their broken bodies..
Turning our lives around after such an experience is often hard..
Sport has brought many of them back from their lonely ordeal of recovery.. Being part of a Team, encouraging and pulling each other up when things get tough is what unifies and brings  I AM into focus..
I couldn’t sleep the other night and wrote this Poem in Tribute to ALL those who have taken part, and those who have helped them to get to the point.. You are all truly Invictus ..
Invictus
I see your spirit riding high
Every challenge you meet you pass on by
You’ve pulled yourselves up within your hearts
Conquering obstacles right from the start
~
At times the odds were not stacked in your favour
But the I AM Will Power you have savoured
There must have been times when you felt so low
But your determination, True Grit is what you show.
~
Let us not forget your sacrifice
As those who rule roll the dice
In Games of War that snuff out life
To cause such suffering, grief and strife
~
Pride and admiration I have for your spirit
Invictus Hero’s each pushing your limits
All of you have come through so much
In Victory your medals to clutch
~
But Winners you are without a medal to hold
Be proud of the challenge to which you rose
You have connected to the I AM that we all are
And No Limits restricts the Light of a Star…
Well done to all..
An affirmation..
“ I place no limits and no restrictions on all that I intend to accomplish from here on in”
Blessings
~Sue~
A Matter of Opinion~ Judgement & Trust
dont judge peopleIt’s been so very interesting reading your various comments upon my last post. ( An Awakened Man- Interlude) I am still basking in the compliments. I’m so  happy you liked my creative interlude. Happy smiles…
Your opinions are all so very special to me and I was especially keen to see your reactions upon the chosen Video.
It got me thinking!!  Big smiles- always dangerous as my thoughts flit around my often empty caged mind to jingle the keys to inner questioning of ourselves, and our actions.
So as my thoughts take on another muse it got me thinking how easily we judge a book by its cover. Or a group of people by the label given. A Sect by their beliefs. And just how quick we all are to give labels and judge.
Click to view source
I wonder  how many of us dig beneath the surface and uncover the reality of what we are presented with in our everyday lives?
Our judgements are usually based upon opinions often gleaned as we assemble information. But how do we gather that information?
Have you noticed how often our Media News repeats certain sentences? Key words are driven into our subconscious minds hourly??
In the past I made a judgement  of Russell Brand which  was based upon how I had gathered my information about him. I had seen him act in a couple of films and quite frankly I disliked him and the films.( My opinion only)  I also disliked how one of his crazy pranks backfired which hit the headlines. So my ‘opinion’ was gathered upon the information I had access to. Which I drew an opinion on that he was Wacky and an hyped up  eccentric!
It wasn’t until his famous interview on News night by the BBC that I actually found myself listening to what the man was actually saying as he hammered home a few home truths as he hit the nails on their heads of the political circuses we have.
After that several topics of his crossed my path. And I found not only was I listening to his views but also I nodding my head as I was agreeing with many of them. I was also saddened to see how many so called intellectuals within the Media world gave him various labels. But isn’t that what the Media does folks ?
I nodded in  agreed with- We do live in a multi-dimensional world whereby we rely upon our 5 senses. Most have lost the ability to tune into our 6th sense of our Ethereal world. Most do not follow their own intuition. But rely upon the herd. I am sure we share our reality with many various multi dimensions we are totally oblivious of because we simply can not sense them.
So I was not surprised when some didn’t watch the video And some disliked the Man. While others  like me had changed their opinion of him once they really listened and found out various more facts about his life.
All of us Judge one another whether its how we  dress,  we are put into categories  too thin, over weight,  whether we are Gay or straight, what colour is our skin?  or we are judged by our past mistakes. As we label and discriminate.   It doesn’t define who we are.
People often assume mainly because they are conditioned to base their opinions by what is presented as a whole. And if we are told it long enough over and over again. We believe it to be the Truth. But what is Truth?
Some one somewhere draws an opinion and judges. I do it every day. We All do.
Everyday we have opinions  I respect that we have Free Will that entitle us to our opinions. Where would we be without our free thinking minds. . If we all thought the same we would all bleat along in a boring herd of conformity. Blah blah.
Speaking of sheep -Have you noticed how many mind numbing game shows are now on TV? Hummm??? And how many childish advertising campaigns reel in the viewer??  Just a thought I would throw in as I jingle my keys at you again 🙂
But often our opinions are not based upon our own gathered facts. But are based upon others who have judged and made an opinion. We are Told statistics were gathered.  We are told many things and we trust the powers that be wouldn’t lie!
We join the herd because to disagree often leaves us alone, out in the cold, subject to ridicule. Classed as different,  a trouble maker. So we keep our opinions to ourselves.
The point of this post is to ask yourself a question.
Do you make your judgements by trusting what you are told or do you really find out your facts first?? or do we listen to Gossip??
We are told lots of information via the Media. We Trust that information to be correct. But what if its not? One person resigned her news post because she knew she exposed Her News Channels collaboration of deceit and lies..  Take a look here.
We Trust that our politicians have our best interests at heart. They should. WE vote them into powerful positions to govern us to protect our best interests and we pay them handsomely for doing so.
We Trust care institutions will Care for our elderly and infirm. Not always the case.. See Link HERE
We Trust children’s homes care for the vulnerable Not always the case.. See link HERE
We Trust Priests to be Priestley.  Not always the case .. See Link Here
And yet many times these same bodies of people abuse those in their care. Corruption has crept into many places. Coming from the top down. As it appears those in high places have been covering up the Truth for years within these various institutions.
We have lots and lots of information now at our very fingertips. But is it always  Fact?
Before we make judgements we really should get to look beyond the cover.        And dig up our own Facts… The Media is being proved to withholding deliberately Facts..
I have a spare spade if ever you want to borrow one.
Now I’ve weeded out some more of my thoughts. I’ll let you get to work on some of your own.
Love and Enlightenment.
Enjoy your New Week in the New Energies of the Full Moon..
 Thank you for reading
Symbols and Symbiosis
Have you ever wondered about the Symbols we share?
The Language you’re speaking– Do you care?
Have you thought about the Words and the sounds they make?
Do you digest them and absorb- to intake?
Have you ever delved into the History Books ?
Studied Latin or Greek, or been given funny looks
As you compare how words have formed we use today
Did you wonder how hieroglyphs spoke and had their say
The Calendar of Mayan, such marvel of Signs
Which spanned many centuries, how geniusly  designed
The First Nations, the Indians with paintings on the rocks
Symbols of the road we travel with forks and zig-zag blocks
I’m sure you’ve seen the spirals from Pagan times and Celts
And the Flower of Life in Egypt along with Orion’s Belt
Celtic Cross Bakewell Church
Did you ponder now in modern times of symbols that we see
As we delve into the Past of Mysticism’s Sea
And what about the Symbols that ‘Crop’ up with in a field
Did you never wonder at their messages they wanted revealed
Now moving to your Dreams, what Signs do they show you?
Have you never-ever wondered if they’re giving you a clue
Look beyond your language, Look no further than the Sky
Look beyond the Stars, then pose your question -Why?
See the Signs in Nature, look up the word Symbiosis
Our Earth Mother is talking- Wake Up!- We’re in Crisis!
Each of us, carries within us the capacity to change the world in small ways for better or worse. Everything we do and think affects the people in our lives, and their reactions in turn affect others As the effect of a seemingly insignificant word passes from person to person, its impact grows and can become a source of great joy, inspiration, anxiety, or pain. Your thoughts and actions are like stones dropped into still waters, causing ripples to spread and expand as they move outward..
