Our Mission

At StyroCycle, we are committed to reducing expanded polystyrene (EPS) waste sent to landfills to ZERO. By promoting polystyrene foam recycling and encouraging EPS packaging recycling at the community level, we strive to make recycling EPS foam accessible for everyone. Through partnerships with local councils, businesses, and EPS manufacturers, we are diligently working to create a network for expanded polystyrene recycling that supports a sustainable, zero-waste model.

Our Recycling Partners

Our recycling partners, all proudly Australian businesses, are making substantial investments in cutting-edge recycling technologies to tackle packaging waste from imported goods. Their efforts not only address pressing waste issues but also reduce reliance on virgin materials, paving the way for more sustainable manufacturing practices across the country.

All non-contaminated expanded polystyrene can be recycled, and in fact, can be repeatedly recycled.

EPS manufacturers in Australia go to extensive lengths to ensure they have a closed-loop production model. This means that whatever leaves the factory that is either unused or can be returned for recycling is returned to the system. Manufacturers collect and recycle scrap polystyrene from several sources:
EPS manufacturers have been recycling expanded polystyrene for decades. Over time, they have invested in state-of-the-art EPS machinery and processes that have greatly increased the efficiency of EPS recycling. These machines combines the function of crushing, compacting, and pelletising into one step, thereby reducing manual labour.

Frequently asked questions

What types of polystyrene can I recycle with StyroCycle?

StyroCycle accepts clean, rigid polystyrene packaging — such as appliance and electronics packaging, vegetable and meal delivery boxes, and bean bag beads (if contained in a tied plastic bag).

We also accept clean construction offcuts from building sites. Please note: materials must be free from tape, labels, food, or contaminants.

No — StyroCycle offers free community drop-off recycling for smaller quantities such as a car boot, ute load, or single trailer load.

Larger or regular quantities (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly deliveries) is considered a “commercial” agreement and may attract a collection fee, set by the participating recycler. You can contact them directly to confirm any fees or reach out to us to provide you with the contact details to enquire.

You can find your nearest drop-off location using our interactive StyroCycle Map.
The map includes StyroCycle sites and other independent EPS recyclers across Australia.

While StyroCycle is not affiliated with all sites listed, we share them to make recycling easy and accessible, ensuring more EPS stays out of landfill.

Once collected, the polystyrene is cleaned, compacted, and remanufactured into new products — such as building insulation, lightweight fill, and decorative mouldings.

StyroCycle helps create a circular economy where foam packaging is transformed into durable materials for sustainable homes and construction projects.

No — StyroCycle is a non-profit private EPS recycling initiative operated under the Expanded Polystyrene Australia (EPSA) program.
Polystyrene should not go into household recycling bins because it breaks apart and contaminates other recyclables. Instead, drop it off at a StyroCycle location to ensure it’s properly recycled and kept out of the environment.
