This journal is my personal journal. I write about my everyday life, my family and interests. Some will be for everyone some will be friends-locked. For ex.  you will be able to read the posts containing pictures of my sons Alexander and David but not always see the pictures. For full access unless let me know and I'll set it up for you.

So David broke his arm last week.

Their schedule had been altered because of exams. So for phys ed they went to the park instead. Playing hide and seek. David figured he would hide up in a tree. Solid thought. Unfortunately he fell down and broke his arm.

He was SO brave and admirable. No doubt it hurt like hell. The only time he cried was when they tried to put the bones back in place. First he got a temp cast to make the wait easier. The X-rays showed both bones in the left arm were broken around the wrist, and that they would have to operate to get the bones properly in place and the place some wires to keep the bones in place while healing. It was a long day and a long wait but David and I managed to have a nice day at the hospital while waiting. And we got to go home the following day.

He’s very aware of all the things he won’t be able to do at the moment but he’s in good spirit. Hopefully he’ll get the cast off before we go on our summer vacation 🤞

After not having trained much in April due to vacation and other engagements I’m back at it. Apparently even a few weeks of not getting beaten is enough of a break to bruise up all over again. My arms and legs are all sorts of colours. I’ve signed up for the annual Gashuku Camp again this year. Last year was my first time participating it’s several months of trainings worth crammed into on weekend. So very intense but also really great. I’m looking forward to it.
Here are most of May in instagrams …

This year both J and I had all of Easter off. So we went to Amsterdam. IT’s a great city, and the weather was nice. At the boys school they’d had a Van Gogh theme, so of course we went to the Van Gogh Museum. We also took a canal tour, did some shopping and got some amazing food.

We even had a few more days after we godt back to relax and enjoy the sun. All in all a great Easter.

I got my first tournament fight. Leading up to it I’ve been focusing a lot on my training, and had some minor injuries. I thought that might end up influencing the fight. I googled my opponent and discovered that she was at least a green belt. Thats 4-5 grades higher than mine. For men there are more fighters so they are divided up in to age groups and after grades and often weight as well, so the gap isn’t too big. But in the women category there was only one category. All women 18+. My sensei said you’ll win or learn a lot. I feel I didn’t get either of those. I didn’t win. I got disqualified. The fight went into overtime and we were definitely both tired when my opponent blocked one of my punches up into her own head. Hitting in the head is not allowed and I was disqualified. Very frustrating since it wasn’t like I did it on purpose. It happens, you continue. But apparently (I wasn’t allowed to watch) the doctor came over and my opponent made a big scene out of it and was deemed unable to continue the fight. My guess it was mainly because she was tired and didn’t want to continue. Cause when the next fight came she was miraculously recovered and ready to fight again. One thing is to loose to someone better than you. That’s fine. But I felt like my chance to prove myself was taken from me. But I have some things to work on moving forward. Osu 🙏🏻

March has been a lot about karate and getting ready for my first tournament fight. So there has been a lot of training and not so many pictures. But here are the first two weeks of February ininstagrams

We’ve all had lots of events and parties these last 3 weeks. I’ve had a moms night out with the other moms from D’s class. I went to a Low Fi concert. We all celebrated my mother’s birthday and J and I had our copper wedding anniversary to name a few.

But the copper wedding anniversary is quite the accomplisment. We’ve been together for 15 years but been married for 12,5. We’re talking about finally throwing a party since we didn’t have one for our wedding, but still need to work out some details.

At karate I feel I’ve advanced quite a bit lately. Some things make more sense and I get very good feedback when we fight – kumite. Therefore I have accepted my sensei’s suggestion that I fight at a big tournament at the end of March. I’m both excited and a bit scared. But good scared if that’s a thing.

Week 5-7 or the first half of February – well February always means Super Bowl time. This year Patriots went up against the Rams. It’s always more exciting when your team is playing, and luckily for me Patriots have frequented the SB a lot for the last 20 years(-ish).
Alexander got to stay up and watch it again this year. And David said that he wants to as well next year.
We sent J to Bilbao afterwards but he got back in time for our winter vacation. We went to the same waterpark the boys and I tried out last year. And as last year we also got to visit Pernille.

January update – the the way February is pasting by I’m already way behind on that as well.

January is always nerve-racking when it comes to football. I’m lucky that Patriots are often in the play offs so I get to be excited. Where as both J and A’s teams were out this season. I’ll save you the suspense – Patriots made it to the Super Bowl LIII (and won it).

With my work hours being off from the rest of the family I feel like we have less time together, but we try to make the most of it and make it quality time instead.

I haven’t updated in a while so here comes all of December in one update.

I had an idea that I’d have a nice relaxing December, but it turned out differently. Having finished my Lyreco project I thought I would have some time to do lots of home projects and really get into the Christmas spirit before moving on to the next project.

I’m a long time fan of the store called Superhelten (Superhero) based in Copenhagen. They sell toys and merchandise both in the store and online. The owner Benjamin is a passionate nerd and collector of statues. When the last 2 Star Wars film came out he arranged special screenings. His passion for what he does shines through and it’s hard to resist. So when he needed some Christmas assistance I signed up. It’s not like anything I’ve ever done before. Helping out in the store. Making sure everyone got just the right Christmas present for their loved ones. It’s hard not to get happy. In 2019 they’re updating their webpage and onlineshop and hopefully I can help with that as well. Store hours how ever differ from our normal family rutine so I start late and get home later than everybody else. So some days I don’t get to see the others much.

J and A both got sick during December so it was hard handling everything on top of working a lot. Luckily David and I went free.

For Christmas Eve it was my turn to cook and I must say this year the turkey and every thing was better than ever before.

Earlier this year J was very happy that the expo that normally collides with Thanksgiving and means he can’t be at home for it had been moved this year. Unfortunately something else came up at work so he still missed it. The boys and I had a nice dinner joined by one of Alexander’s class mates and watched some football.

Now we’re getting ready for Christmas. Everyone have been down with a cold and a soar throat. But we try to get in the mood and decorate the place, so we’re getting there.

I haven't posted much. It has been super busy. I haven't even been able to go to karate for 2 weeks. I've really missed it!

We've celebrated Alexander's 11 year birthday. Because it's been super busy we haven't thrown him a party yet. With most of the family having their birthdays in the first weeks of November it's a minefield. We went out for dinner on his birthday though and he got to choose the restaurant. We tried out an Italian one close to us. It was like something out of Lady and the Tramp with red and white checkered tablecloths, wine bottles hanging from the ceiling and soft music music playing in the background.

J was home for 1,5 day before leaving for Spain Sunday. Being alone with the kids with a full time job in Trekroner and with lots of appointments you have to be creative to make things work. Luckily I got a lot of help last week so it worked out.

David was invited to an open house at Sankt Annæ Gymnasium (SAG). Its a musical school that starts in 3rd grade and focuses a lot on music and especially singing. To get in there’s a vocal test to see if you can hold a tune, clap rhythms and hear and sing back notes. We love the school the boys attend now, and it’s a good class, so we’re not looking to change, but David sings and hums all the time, so we owe him to let him try out at least. If he gets in then we have to decide if it’s worth the change of school. You know what you have but not what you’ll get. At the open house event they had 2 kids from 5th grade telling about going there. They mentioned they shouldn’t fear the change, cause since the school starts in 3rd grade it's not like you’re the only new kid. Everyone starts at the same time eager to get new friends.

I always manage to take more pictures of David than Alexander. It shows this week. Not that I didn’t do stuff with Alexander. It just wasn't documented.

Alexander and J were supposed to go on the annual camping and canoe trip with Alexander’s class. But due to weather conditions they had to cancel the trip. Instead they arranged a day full of sports, nerf gun battles and pizza. So it wasn’t all bad.

It’s mainly been about karate. There was the annual gasshuku camp at Bosei. This year with hanshi Bosman from South Africa as a guest instructor. It was 3 days of hardcore training. It was my first year, so I was a bit nervous about how hard it was. I won’t lie it was hard! I gave it everything I got. And it was amazing. I was afraid of sustaining injuries but besides a soar hand and a lot of bruises I got through alright.

A few headliners and pictures:

The annual school photos were taken. I still get a say in what they wear for the occasion. This year luckily we agreed easily. The actual pictures will be in next weeks update.

There's an annual karate camp. It's 3 days hardcore training over a weekend. Kids can join on Saturday. Last year David went and had a great time and was graduated to orange belt with blue stripe. I signed up for the full weekend this year. I'm both excited and a bit scared. They all talk about it with awe and fear 'cause it's so hard. But hopefully I'll earn my stripe as well.
It coinsides with me and J's 12th wedding anniversary, but having made it that far we agreed we could celebrate another day. Maybe in 6 months time in time for our copper wedding anniversary ...

I'm listening to Everlast these days cause I'm going to a concert with him this month.

And the NFL season is here – yeah! Can't wait ❤️🏈

I've been really tired. Ready to turn in at the same time as the kids. So there is only one picture from week 34, and no cut needed.

Working full time and doing some freelance assignments also is hard. Especially combined with the logistics of a busy family.

I did manage to go to the cinema with my former colleague, Helle. We watched Book Club about a group of mature women being stuck in their lives, but after they start reading "Fifty Shades of Grey" in their book Club it shakes things up. It was funny and sweet but not much more than that. But being very tired that was just fine.

We spent the weekend in Jutland with "Svendborgbanden" (the guys J went to school with when he was 17). As always it was great fun. The summer meet is with kids included. And it's so nice to see even though they don't see each other that often when they do they get along and have fun together from the get go. That leaves more room for the adults to talk, drink some good wine and have fun. This time we tried out a board game called Hint. It was hilarious. Next meet is the Christmas party. It's "sans kids" and J and I are hosting it cause I got the "Gøgereden"-present last year.

Really tired and on our way home after a great weekend at Thorsager

We've been home for our holiday in a month now. The boys are back at school and J and I are working.

I started at Lyreco. Not a permanent position but for a few months. It's hardcore inDesign work. They make a 850-900 page catalogue. Or 3 actually – Danish, Swedish and Norwegian. I'm helping out making them all. As I wrote last time to get me there and back again we bought an old used car. Instead of 1½ hour commute both ways it only takes 30 min. I've had to recall how to drive stick and find my way around without GPS. It takes some getting used to.

3 weeks vacation summed up in pictures.

We went on our first vacation by car. We drove to Croatia and made a few stops on our way home and visited Bratislava and Prague.

Now we're back home. J is back at work. Personally I start Wednesday. The boys have a few more weeks before school starts.

We had the boy’s cousin Frej living with us for a week. For school they had job training and Frej went to J’s work. We don’t have a spare room so he borrowed David’s room. D got to sleep in our room. Not too bad a deal. I think Frej enjoyed both learning about J’s work and they had some nice long talks about life, being young, growing up making choices. While we're on holiday he's coming to stay here watching the house and the cat.

Slowly but surely we’ve been going into summer mode. Had playdates, friends over for barbecue and a picnic in the park with David’s class, parents and teachers to wish each other a good summer. But now we’re officially on vacation time. Love it!
