Go You Big Red Fire Engine has been hanging out in #straightdope fairly regularly. She is not to be opped because she may be trolling for stuff to post in the anonymous snark communities. Please do a /whois before opping anyone. GYBRFE is in Australia. If she's in there, watch what you say; don't say anything in the open channel that you wouldn't want everyone to know about.

What's the story, anyway? Is #straightdope deader than Elvis now or what?
I fired up Irc for the first time in forever last night and bopped into chat and ... nothing. There were a few people in there. I said something like, "pretty dead, huh?" Got a "yup" and then ... just nothing.

I stayed logged in as I did other things and by the time I signed off, no one had said a fucking word in about an hour.

Has drama done it in?
It used to be so fun.
I miss trivia.
I miss the bullshitting and the wisecracking.

You can never go home again, can you?

Hey, just an FYI: Photon will be down for a couple/few weeks, as will the stats pages, etc. I had to move the server out of the downstairs, as we're remodeling. It should be up by November at the latest. Thanks.

Sheepi has been added to the userlist, but one of you will have to change her access level (I could only set it to 399). You guys are the only ones with access high enough to change it to 400.

OK folks, so for those of you following here, we now have four more "mods" to deal with any problems or needs that arise in #straightdope. Berkut (joeycooper), BrianJ(brianjedi), Garf(mr_funny_man) and sheepi(sheepi83). Go to them if you think someone should be banned or if you need access to X or anything administrative.  Thanks!

Hey y'all. There's been one or two "situations" in #straightdope recently and there haven't been any "mods" to really make any decisions since MaxTorque, MaxO and myself aren't around much anymore. So I'd like to bump some people up to help make those kinds of decisions and have the authority on X to enforce them, if need be. So, BrianJ, Garfield and (tentatively, if he's interested) Berkut now have high enough access on X to enforce those kinds of things. It wouldn't hurt to have one more person as well. So if you know someone who's 1)been around a while, 2)is in chat often, 3)has a level head and also 4)it would help to have some irc/Undernet knowledge, let me know. Sorry there hasn't been anyone around to help out in those situations and thanks for making the right decisions in the absence of any "authority", heh.

Ok, got the voice server up again for the weekend. Go here to download the client. Then connect to server: demo.dnsalias.org. Choose anonymous, put in your nick, use "cecil" as the server password and come talk!

*edit* You might also want to go to: Settings-Sound input/output settings and change to push to talk and set a hotkey.
