Umeå Institute of Design, 2021
Project duration: 5 weeks
This is a short project focused on working with the complexities of product development and construction. An existing electronic screwdriver’s components were the starting point for a new design, based on the form language of a brand of choice. Design and engineering were employed in tandem to deliver a technically feasible design.
Tools for a domestic setting should look competent, without overpromising performance. Sony ES-1 is inspired by Sony's camera design. Expressing its identity through precise, pragmatic forms and functional clarity.
Using the existing component package, a new, compact and ergonomically versatile design was conceived. Featuring an inner skeleton to which all components are mounted, allowing for easy disassembly and repair.
