Lol. Its also the 21st century, kid. Most PC games should be plug and play controller compatible by now, from the get go. Mouse and keys are fine and dandy for basics, but no amount of PC elitism is gonna cover up the fact that ease of use, brings more gamers to the table.

Figuring it out is annoying and hold back the fun starting. Perhaps consoles have spoiled me a bit (agreed), but strong dual analogue controllers have been around now for some time, and Xbox 360 controller for eight years, almost a decade. 360 controller as standard should be the norm alongside mouse/keys, not the after thought (kudos to those that realise this.

It does need better controller support, especially for a game these days. Tried mine and it wasn't straight forward to set up. Shouldn't have to configure it.
