Basic Instructions For Setting Up Main Category Icons in Coppermine – Without CTM Plugin

If you purchase the Coppermine Thumbnail Manager (CTM), instructions for setting your icons will be included in the zip and you should follow those instructions. The plugin makes it a lot faster and easier to set and change your icons all on one screen.

Step 1. Upload the icon to your gallery as you would normally upload any photo. Taking note of where you upload the icon in your gallery.

Step 2. Create a publicIcon” album in EACH main category (ie. Red Carpet Appearances, Magazines, etc.). So if you have 10 main categories that means you will make 10 albums named “Icon“. (Make sure the album is set to public if you are using Coppermine 1.6x as you can no longer view thumbnails or images from private albums starting with this version. If you are running Coppermine 1.5x you can make the album private.)

Step 3. Add one icon to each of the “Icon” albums you just made. If your icons have text, take note of which icon is which.

Step 4. Click on the “Category” link in your Coppermine gallery.

Step 5. Edit the category by click on the the pencil icon (“Edit” on hover) beside the category you wish to set the icon for.

Step 6. Scroll to the bottom of the “Category” page and you will now see a box with the caption “Category thumbnail” above it. If you placed the icon in the correct album the icon will be available for you to choose along with any other images in that main category’s directory.

>> If you do not see the icon available for you to set, you did not A) place the icon in the right album or B) you did not create the album in the right directory. Go back to the top and retrace your steps.

Step 7. ClickUpdate/Create Category“. Redo the same steps in next category.
