About the course

The Speech & Stuttering Institute’s Preschool Fluency e-course is based on the Indirect Treatment Protocol and addresses best practices for young children who stutter.

Our use of the term “preschoolers” includes young children, up to Grade 1 entry. The course contains relevant and important content for clinicians serving children and families through PSL and SBRS programs and is the foundation for other programs suited to children up to Grade 4 entry.

The fully asynchronous e-course consists of a series of modules that include core content, videos, interactive activities, and resources. In this course, participants learn how to:

  • Identify, describe, and measure preschool stuttering
  • Assess contributing factors, risk, and intervention needs
  • Provide parent education and respond to common parent counselling needs
  • Select among various intervention approaches including home programming and monitoring
  • Develop individualized treatment recommendations
  • Provide a Comprehensive Indirect Treatment program for preschoolers who stutter and their families

Past participants have told us that it takes approximately 8 to 12 hours to complete the course; however, this time can vary, depending on your familiarity with the material as well as the number of times you review videos or course content. You have three months to complete the course, and you can do it at your own pace and on your own schedule.
