Featured Projects
Featured below are some of our recent projects which showcase our capabilities.
OS Project

Solution architecture, design and build of a Microsoft Azure-hosted, Spatio-Temporal Asset Catalogue (STAC) prototype management platform for Ordnance Survey to help them streamline their internal management of Aerial Photography, DTM/DEM data, Point Cloud data and EO satellite imagery data. A user-friendly STAC Portal was developed enabling users to search/discover, view, upload and download OS imagery resources (Aerial Photography and DTM/DEM data products) as well as EO satellite imagery from sources like Microsoft Planetary Computer, Maxar, and Planet. A comprehensive STAC API was also provided for users needing programmatic access for machine learning and other analytical processing etc.
“OS and Spatial Days worked together on the development of a prototype system for the management internal and external Earth Observation data. The project lasted approximately six months with the Spatial Days team undertaking all solution architecture and software development activities. The project was run in an Agile manner with regular sprint reviews used to showcase progress and discuss priorities with the product owner and key stakeholders. The project ran to budget with the key outputs delivered on time with detailed documentation and a support period that helped ensure OS could extract the most value from the work undertaken.” – Project Manager, Ordnance Survey
“It was great working with Spatial Days on developing a prototype imagery catalogue based on STAC. Richard and the team were responsible for solution design, software development and overall delivery and I was thoroughly impressed by their professionalism and how they approached this collaborative piece of work. I look forward to future opportunities to work with Richard and the rest of the team at Spatial Days.” – Technical Lead, Ordnance Survey
PDM Project

The Satellite Applications Catapult needed a better approach to manage and access satellite data resources within their organisation. We took advantage of the recently published STAC standard and its associated ecosystem of STAC tools to develop an intuitive STAC Portal in Azure that allows users to discover, view and download publicly-available STAC Catalogs, Collections and Items and add them to their own organisation’s STAC Catalog. Users can also upload their own organisation’s satellite data into this Catalog. Once created, users can then discover, view and download satellite data resources from this STAC Catalog using a user-friendly STAC Browser client application or the custom STAC API.
This STAC Portal is a great tool for better satellite data management and access within an organisation. More information can be found here.
“It was really fun to work with the Spatial Days team on this Project. Project timescales were short, but the team were highly engaged, focused and collaborative at all times on the Project. They were really on board with the value of what we were doing and could see the potential use cases the Project would allow in future. Looking forward to the next opportunity!” – Technical Lead, Satellite Applications Catapult.
IPP CommonSensing Project

The IPP CommonSensing Project is an ambitious project that uses satellite remote sensing capabilities to support the Governments of Fiji, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands in their efforts to build resilience to the devastating impacts of climate change on their countries and improve their access to climate finance. This is done by providing these countries with relevant spatial datasets and software tools, complemented by in-country training/capacity building and the embedding of specialists within the relevant government structures.
The IPP Common Sensing Project is funded through a grant from the UK Space Agency’s International Partnership Programme (IPP) which supports cutting-edge research and innovation on global issues affecting developing countries. The grant funding is supplemented by contributions from project partners and matched with in-kind contributions from the three participating nations. Spatial Days Ltd has contributed to the Project by providing solution architecture expertise, software development, technical management and GIS consultancy.
“I worked with Spatial Days on an extremely complicated and lengthy project at the Satellite Applications Catapult. Spatial Days provided Richard Oates to us in the role of Solutions Architect. Richard took on the role with no issues at all and given the Project was already in progress, he had no problem hitting the ground running. After completing the Solutions Architect role, we then made the decision to extend the Spatial Days contract and take Richard on as the overarching Technical Manager. He played a vital and pivotal role on the Project and I genuinely don’t think it would have been as successful without him on board. Richard was a pleasure to work with and I would thoroughly recommend him as his skillset is vast and no problem or system is too complex.” – Project Manager, Satellite Applications Catapult.
Business API for Unloq

Unloq Ltd is a mergers and acquisitions firm specialising in the acquisition of UK-based privately held business. As Unloq’s customer base was growing, they were becoming increasingly frustrated with the man hours needed to obtain, store and process company data from Companies House. And even though Companies House has a useful API, automatically extracting only the relevant data and being able to query more than one company at a time were both limiting factors on its usefulness.
Unloq engaged Spatial Days to develop a more effective Company API that could bulk process company data quicker, produce useful data outputs that could be imported straight into Unloq’s existing business processes and also alert staff when relevant changes occur to companies that Unloq is tracking.
“Spatial Days did the work on time and on budget. The Company API they produced for us has streamlined our internal research process and, per client, has reduced part of our workload from days to just 15 minutes. We are delighted with this Company API, we use it daily and we are now working closely with Spatial Days to establish a strategic partnership to provide this technology through a new venture called Whoovr.” – Managing Director, Unloq Ltd.
Data Supply Contracts for Airbus DS

Airbus DS urgently needed a number of Data Technicians on data supply contracts involving:
- Orthorectification of DMC raster satellite imagery to produce false colour composite digital data products.
- Quality assessment and reporting on both SAR and Optical raster satellite imagery.
Within a week, Spatial Days Ltd provided four, high-quality, short-term contract staff to Airbus to help them deliver on time and on budget.
“Many thanks Richard and a massive thank you once again for supplying very professional and competent staff, who adapted well to the challenging workload of the project. Looking forward to working with you and your team in the future!” – Project Manager, Airbus DS.
Security-related Projects for a Specialist Risk Management Company

Map production at strategic and regional scales highlighting security-related issues in a number of South American and African countries. Data processing and mapping of security-related issues in London and Paris.
“Spatial Days went the extra mile for us. Diligently getting under the skin of the problems presented to them and delivering fine grade products. The maps were clear and intelligible – translating complex data sets into high impact graphics. We could not have asked for more.” – Managing Director, Specialist Risk Management Company.
