Sound or Sight is a visual representation of the "safe" listening zone for marching arts performers. Anyone within the E1 zone may play with what they hear from the battery/metronome with negligible effect on time. E2 is similar, though with the error determined by milliseconds, rather than musical calculations. If the conductor and pulse source are visually together, anyone within the same ring as the metronome/battery may play with the conductor. For each ring outwards from the one which contains the battery/metronome, performers anticipate the conductor by one 32nd note. For each ring inwards from the battery/metronome, performers delay by one 32nd note.
