You were the Chosen One.
I have been using you since 2018. I have given you over $368.46. Nitro, boosts, subscriptions. And how do you repay your community? By forcing people to verify their age with a picture of their face or a government issued ID. We told you to fix the pedophile problem. This is not it. This was […]
Retiring Aurora
Back in August, I wrote about changing how my web server worked. At the time, that felt like a big shift. Looking back now, it was really just the first step toward a larger realization. What I actually ended up doing was moving all of my websites out of my house. That sounds obvious in […]
Unregulated AI.
A lot is happening right now. ICE kidnapping people and also shooting people people. State violence is being normalized by the far right. I want to write about that, and I plan to, but I have not been able to. I have been off my medication, and writing about real harm happening in real time […]
It’s Time to Upgrade
So I am planning a network upgrade in the next few months. My family has been running everything on a single Netgear WiFi 6 router. Earlier this year, I swapped out the WiFi part with a Ruckus R720 and a R610, and that fixed pretty much all the patchy coverage around the house. But I […]
Introducing PoolZilla!
About two weeks ago, I finally decided to write off the data I lost back in 2023 (see Data Recovery P.1–1.5). It was not fun accepting that some things were gone for good, but honestly, keeping those old drives in my family’s safe would have just meant more bitrot over time. Letting go was the […]
I am a dirty Liar
I’m too ashamed to have an excerpt. Please forgive me for I have committed a deadly sin, and I’m now a Christian /j
UK Online Safety Act
This does nothing; it never has, never will. The Online Safety Act doesn’t protect anyone. It only breaches the privacy of the people in the UK. Encryption is at risk, platforms are forced to scan private messages, and basic freedoms are chipped away in the name of “safety.” Porn isn’t the biggest danger in the […]
Webserver Restructuring
I’m planning some backend work in mid-to-late January to overhaul my web infrastructure. Right now, everything runs through a single Apache server. But I’ve been meaning to move toward something a little more fault-tolerant and future-proof. The goal is to restructure into something like this: Nginx Proxy Server ↓ Aurora Webserver (Apache) ↓ Full Backup […]
git.oldgate.org rolled back ~1 day
A quick note: git.oldgate.org (aka git.satki.net) was rolled back by roughly 24 hours. The twice-hourly backups silently failed, both locally and offsite. The issue went unnoticed until a push exposed it. I’ve restored everything I can; no major damage, just a lost day. Backup alerting is now in place. This won’t slip through again.
My Favorite Games P.1
This is a post I wanted to write way back in 2022 but never got around to. But there’s no time like today. I’ll be going through five of my favorite games of all time. Now, just because I love these games doesn’t mean you need to like them or that they’re objectively the best […]
