Sparkly has gone from spy books back to WWII– specifically, carrier warfare in the Pacific. Ey has been telling me the highlights of the books, which I always enjoy.
Apparently the US had a serious problem, early in the war in the Pacific, with carriers not communicating with each other when they planned their attacks. Ey told me about one situation where the pilots from one carrier didn’t even know that the other was going to be launching planes at the same time, so a group of fighters from one carrier ended up mistaking the other carrier’s bombers for their own and following them, leaving the bombers from their ship without an escort.
It’s very emotional stuff to read about, because it’s simultaneously funny and very serious.
