Breaking Barriers, Bringing Japanese Theater To The World

ABOUT:

Bridging Japanese Performing Arts and the World.

SOIL is an initiative led by the Japan Performing Arts Solidarity Network (JPASN) to promote Japanese performing arts on a global scale. It enhances the international presence and accessibility of Japan’s diverse performing arts while fostering cross-cultural exchange and professional growth in the performing arts sector.

1.

Our Initiative

Liaison for
International Exchange

SOIL serves as a liaison and facilitator connecting Japanese performing arts with international presenters, curators, and festivals.
From independent theater companies to long-established performing arts organizations, we work across this spectrum to support communication and coordination with overseas partners.
We handle inquiries ranging from performance invitations and co-production proposals to information requests and introductions, both online and in person.
Through our website and ongoing exchange, we aim to make Japanese performing arts more accessible to the global community while supporting artists and companies in navigating international collaboration.

2.

Our Initiative

Showcasing at
Global Festivals & Markets

SOIL curates and produces strategic programs to introduce Japanese performing arts to the world’s most influential festivals and markets. Our footprint extends across diverse global platforms—from hosting high-profile pitch events at the Edinburgh International Festival to managing dedicated exhibition booths at major industry hubs like ISPA, CINAR, and HKPAX.
By tailoring our approach to each environment, we create direct, high-impact pathways that connect Japanese artists with the right international programmers and presenters.
Beyond mere introductions, we accelerate the international trajectory of Japanese works by managing complex contracts, logistics, and production coordination—bridging the gap between a first meeting and a successful global tour.

3.

Our Initiative

Building Skills for
Global Engagement

SOIL is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of industry leaders capable of driving the international expansion of Japanese performing arts. We provide high-level mentorship and insider expertise, offering fellows a deep dive into the complexities of the international festival ecosystem.
Through rigorous pitch simulations, strategic mentorship dialogues, and real-world case studies, our program is designed to bridge the gap between creative vision and global market demands.
In a strategic collaboration with the British Council, SOIL also delivers specialized training in cross-cultural negotiation and international discourse. This ensures our participants possess not just the language skills, but the strategic communication mastery required to navigate and lead complex global collaborations.
