Nøkken is a 25-year-old violin virtuoso and experimental musician who is dedicated to performing cerebral and emotionally complex music, both his own improvisations and new music by composers. His live concerts include performance art and he wears a mask.

Originally trained as a classical concert violinist, Nøkken's fascination with philosophical aesthetics and novelty drove him outside of this toward new music that captures the condition of the individual in contemporary society. The persona of a horse-masked man is an embodiment of his constant struggles with mutual understanding with other human beings and the darker elements of society's confrontation with minorities and deviance and the collective unconscious. Nøkken is the inevitable consequence of suppression.

The music of Nøkken is draws from a plethora of inspirations, including John Cage, violin virtuosos of the previous centuries, post-rock, indie-classical, Scandinavian artists, and guitarists Buckethead, Steve Vai, Frank Zappa. The end result is an uncompromising primal display of technical and lyrical caprice.

Genres: Experimental, Indie Classical, New Music, Chamber Pop, Post-Rock, Post-Minimalism, Indie Folk, 20th-Century Modernism, Indie Rock, Anything Really

Nøkken holds a Bachelors of Music with distinguished high honors from a top tier conservatory and has done graduate work in violin performance. He teaches music and is a professional freelance musician. When he is not playing music, he is writing literature, creating digital artwork or working on academic philosophy. He has completed three books of postmodern poetry, and is currently writing a book on stochastic variation and individual expression in aesthetics, an essay on the phenomenology of species difference as well as a few opera librettos and a novel.
