KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

My name is Alex and I'm 26 years old. I work for the local city as bridge inspector which was a honest paying job for someone as young as me.

One day, I was tasked to travel to ancient bridge in the outskirts of town. The boss wanted me to take pictures and estimate the cost of replacing the whole thing.

It didn't take long for me to get to the spot and see how quickly mother nature was taking over. All of the steel support beams were heavily rusted over, plant life sprouted through the asphalt with large pieces of the wooden guardrail missing. Basically, a lawsuit waiting to happen. I parked the work truck to the shoulder of the road and climbed out, walking around the back to grabbed my water boots and camera. After making sure that everything was secured, I shuffled down the hill and into the water.

Just when I was about to call it a day, something furry and red caught the corner of my eye. “Holy shit." I whispered as i saw that it was small anthro wolf pup dressed in a leather loincloth and bra, telling me that she was female. She laid motionless on top of a dead log until she noticed the sudden noise I made and looked my way, softly growling before desperately trying to get up.

It was odd seeing one so far in the human territories. I mean, we don't show any bias towards them or anything, it was just rare to see one this close before.

The poor thing looked at me with a terrified expression when it found out that I wasn't backing down from her warnings. “Shhh it's alright little one. I'm not gonna hurt ya." I reassured it, gently scratching the side of its neck while checking her injuries. Deep cuts ran along the side her hind legs, making me assume that the poor thing was running for long periods of time, which explained why she didn't bolt right away when I was near.

“Your wounds need to be patched up and cleaned. Once you're fixed, I'll take you back to where I found ya." I said, offering my hand out to her. The young wolf was reluctant at first but after moment, she sniffed my hand and licked it which was common for anthromorphs when they interact with each other.

“I'm Alex by the way, what shall I call you?" I asked, she only shook her head. “Hmm, ok. Well why did come this far out?" I asked my second question only for her to shrug her shoulders." Umm alright then. Well where are your parents or tribe?" This time, the wolf looked down, her long pointy ears planted flat against her head as she began to sob. “T-they….chased me out because I was…. d-different!" She whimpered.

“I don't understand. The only thing that's different about you is your red fur." I responded, slightly confused. Her sobbing was louder this time as we locked eyes. “I'll show you but you got to promise that you won't run away."

“Trust me, i've seen all the world has to offer. Nothing can surprise me at this point." The wolf nodded while slowly reaching for her loincloth. My face turned bright she pulled it completely down, revealing male genitals along with her female parts. I immediately covered my eyes with my hand, sweat quickly dripping from my forehead. “Oh ummm….errrr well I...um wasn't expecting that."

“Mother tried hide me from the rest of the clan but our chief found out and rallied everyone against us. Mother told me to run and never look back, m-mother promise that she'll be right behind me but she's…." My heart broke in two as the young wolf told me her story. Rejected by her people and unable to find her mother, she was alone.

“I'm sorry that you went through all of that, no one deserves to experience such a thing at such a young age." I couldn't help but show sympathy towards the girl. Neither of us expected what I said next however. “I'll tell you what, you can stay at my place for as long as need." I chirped which made her ocean blue eyes sparkle.

“R-really?!" She asked.

“Why of course! I can't leave you alone again no- OOF!" was all I was able to say before the ball of fur leaped into my arms, almost causing me to drop my phone into the water. “I'll take that as a yes."

With the job already completed and the day almost over, I finished my gig and drove my work vehicle back to the warehouse with the wolf in tow.

I was lucky that all of my coworkers had already left so I didn't have to deal with them. “Ok little one, take my spare shorts and shirt then we can go!" I said, guiding the wolf pup into the passenger side of my car and handed her a grocery filled with my stuff. The engine roared into life as I twisted the ignition with my key and shifted the transmission to drive. Pulling out of the lot and into the highway

A good 10 minutes of cruising went by when my stomach started to rumble, along with my passengers tummy as well. I looked over to see the most innocent eyes that could break any man looked back at me. “I guess we both need something to eat. How about a big juicy burger?!" I asked her as she nodded her head rapidly. To be honest, I wasn't sure what exactly anthro wolves eat but I knew it would be somewhere along the lines of meat, lots of meats.

I took the next exit that lead to my hometown and pulled up on the Burger King drive-thru conveniently built along the route. “Hi, welcome to burger king! Would you like to try our new 2 for 4 deal?" A female voice cracked over intercom. “umm no thanks but could I get one of those bacon king sandwiches and a kids meal?" I replied, hearing the wolf panting while bouncing in her seat. After receiving the food, I gave her the larger bag while I kept the smaller one.

She immediately tore through the protective wrap with her hands and took a huge bite out of the burger, gasping from the wave flavors hitting her taste buds all at once. “Is it good?" I asked her, tossing a chicken nugget into my mouth as I stopped at the red light. “Y-yes, it's yummy!" she cried out before taking another bite. “Well I'm glad you like it but don't eat too fast or you'll get sick!" I said, remembering my mother telling me the same exact thing long ago.

We would eventually arrive at my the apartment complex I lived in. It was a decent gated community that wasn't far from downtown with neighbors who kept to themselves majority of the time. “Where're here! I must warn you, my place isn't as decorated as you think but it's still home." I told her, stepping out of the car door while I walked around the side. The pup was already ready for me as she had one hand on the half eaten burger while climbing out, parts of my shirt was covered in a mixture of ketchup and mustard.
