Sykes the Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Sykes, she is a confirmed female by me. She is a Antilles Pinktoe Tarantula or her genus is Avicularia Versicolor.
She hails from the tiny Island of Martinique. Her reds, blues and purple hairy legs makes her a very colorful tarantula and sought after by tarantula keepers.
She is a New Word Tarantula, and a pinktoe to boot, meaning she is docile and prefers to run and hide than face her perceived threat. Unlike other new worlds, Avicularias have itchy urticating hairs, but they cannot kick them into a fine dusty cloud. Instead they have three defensive measures.
1.) They will rub up the threat, almost like as a cat would rub against your leg. This may seem affectionate, but it is anything but as it is rubbing it's very itchy hairs on what it thinks is a threat.
2.) Poop sniper. They can SHOOT their poop at the perceived threat and have an accuracy of 2 feet.
3.) They can bite, but their venom is weak. Their huge fangs do most of the talking when it comes to pain.
