Spider!!! (Animatronic Insect - Louisville Zoo 08-26-2014)

Damn! They sure grow big spiders in Kentucky!

Since there is a bird eating tarantula, i wonder if this is a horse eating spider?

This thing looked like a leftover from a 1950s B -grade science fiction movie that looked and moved a lot more like a spider.

The exhibit was titled "Insects!", as i recall. I am using their terminaology to be consistent. You will note in my tags that I call it a spider but not an insect.

Goliath Bird Eating Spider. When I was a kid my cousin had one. He showed it to me and it was cool. From five feet away, that monster was HUGE! After like an hour I was cool, ignoring it and my cousin thought it'd be funny to put it on my back! Took all I had not to swat it and scream but I can't imagine they're a dime a dozen, so I just sat there as my insides slowly liquified in terror.

Personally, I think that type of "trick" is pretty stupid, if you want the spider. The first reaction of anyone is going to be to either twist or more likely swat. Pretty deadly for the poor, innocent spider.

Yeah, he did grow up to be, let's say unsavory, he still has that little (Gigantic) spider, pretty sure he cares for it more than his family, quite sad.
