Loft Ereborn
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Goy6amofLE)
The first thing Shine noticed was that they had landed right at some kind of entrance platform. Then her eyes looked in wonder. What the vixen saw was grass and a path ahead of them leading off to a city up here. All the way up in the sky. She noticed colored flags on wires that were attached to a pole. In the distance the female could see a floating section of rock with water going down like a waterfall. And even further was what appeared to be some kind of roof to a house. But this was second to what was Shine was feeling. There was a sense of home here, of calm, of happiness, and a few other feelings rolled into one. “Welcome Shine to my home,” Nicholas said. “This is Loft Ereborn.”
The female looked up and could see some insects flying around but also more wisps of clouds higher up. “My god…” she whispered. “Is this… really where you lived? Where Ish went to long ago?”
“You should have memories of this place since she did,” the fosky replied with a chuckle. “In any case we won’t explore too much for now. I imagine that seeing just this alone would be more than enough.”
“Thank you,” Shine commented.
“However… before we go in there’s a couple of things I need to show and tell you. First is this.” The male brought out a map and beckoned the vixen to look. She saw the different locations to this place. “We’ll walk straight ahead through the circle square were some events are held here. Then after a bit we’ll take a left to get to my house. Also you don’t have to worry about meeting anyone. Before we came here I told them that even though I’ve been gone for so long that it’s best to leave us alone. You’ll see some of the residents here but I don’t want to overwhelm you too much since it’s your first time.”
The vixen smiled at the fosky. “So shall we?” she asked.
“Well… before we go in there’s just one thing. Tell me… have you ever seen someone with wings?”
Shine was taken aback by this but saw the male had a serious look on his face. “Only in pictures,” she replied. “There’s no such thing after all.”
“Wrong,” Nicholas said. This took the female by shock. “The truth is… there are like me.”
His eyes closed and the guy took a breath. From his back wings materialized out of thin air. The tops were like a dragon’s but had feathers like birds. Shine took a step back in surprise. “This… this is a lot of the reasons I know so much. The truth is as a resident here I have my own pair of wings to fly. Everyone born here has them. Which is why you’ll see it on everybody here. We have the ability to hide them from others and for tight spaces. But in open places like this we show them off. Those with wings like this can walk on air like you seen me do and grant that power to others for short periods of time. It was one of us long ago who descended to the ground and found Ish. It was one from Loft Ereborn who did and gave her that staff you wield that was made by us for her. He brought her back here at times to live even though he mostly stayed on the ground with her and their family.”
As Nicholas was saying this, Shine was remembering from her life as Ish and saw everything was true. What was shocking to say was the male in her mind that had been the husband of the priestess looked exactly like Nicholas minus the scar on the chin and glasses. Even the wings were the same shape and color. He looked to her with worry. “I’m sorry, does this frighten you? To know I’m more than just a normal specie?” the fosky asked.
Shine closed her eyes but then looked into his. “How could I be?” she replied. “Ever since that moment at the temple… I’ve always known you were something much more. But even so… You’re still the same guy I’ve known.” The vixen wanted to add the word love but something was holding her back. Even so the vixen still loved him and wanted to be with him.
“I see,” Nicholas said with a smile and eyes closed with relief. “That make me happy to hear that from you.” He had been afraid that this would make Shine push him away. Yet it hadn’t. The fosky knew that even with this he could still love and be with the female. “Now then, let’s get to my home.”
She picked up one of the language and he took the rest as usual. They walked down the path and now Shine saw there were trees here. The female also began to hear the voices of other people here. Finally though after a bit when they reached a section in the path the female saw others. There were avians of all kinds but also bats, canines, felines, and some other types of animals. And all of them but the birds had wings on their back of different shapes, sizes, and colors. Shine saw many of them glance their way but like Nicholas said they didn’t even stop him to say hi. He on the other hand saw many of the males when they looked and seeing the vixen cast a hungry and jealous look towards her and him. This time the fosky didn’t hide his growls of protection and possession, and got closer to the female, his tail and wings almost wrapping around Shine to tell the others to back off; that the vixen was his. Even if they weren’t a couple it was a signal to show that the male was going to make the female his. The vixen heard and saw this, touched the fosky felt that strongly about her. Shine got closer to him. Even though they weren’t a couple there was no doubt in her mind that it would happen here. The only problem was finding the right moment to tell him how she felt.
“Ah! Here we are at the circle square!” he stated causing Shine to look up. She saw a wonderful area and saw little kids playing hers, laughing and having fun. It made the vixen smile when seeing this. Even these little ones had wings of their own except for the hatchling avians. Shine was able to see the other paths here that led to other areas but knew it was best to wait for a couple days. This was still a lot to take in.
Nicholas and her continued to walk. The vixen saw that the male looked very happy; like it was so good to be back home. The female could relate. Being reincarnated from Ish Shine remembered how this place once was in the ancient past. While many things had changed there was still a sense of familiarity. “So then… how long has it been since you’ve been here?” she asked.
“I’ve made trips back here during the times we didn’t see each other,” he replied. “But now I know I’m going to live here more on a permanent note. And like that line goes, there is no place like home.”
“Well what about the elements like rain? This seems too open to protect it from that.”
“We’ve got barriers to do so. It’s another magic spell just like those clouds we walked on.”
“So there really is such thing as that. Somehow nothing surprises me anymore.”
“I’m not surprised to hear that,” Nicholas said with a smile.
The two then reached a three-spilt way in the path and took the left one. Both still walked but now Shine was asking questions. While not all of them could be answered at this moment he was keen to tell her some of the things like insects and air sports that could be done here. But then at last they reached the place and Shine’s jaw dropped again. The house was a huge two-story building that was in a hexagon shape. But there were windows on the first floor and more on the second floor. There was a double door with glass panels that could be opened and a small balcony area to sit and enjoy the day at on the second floor. The large front door had some kind of decorations surrounding it.
“Oh my god… you live here?” she stated. “It’s beautiful.”
“Do you like it?” he asked as they got closer.
“Oh I love it… I can actually imagine living in there.”
“That’s good because you’ll be staying here with me.” They reached the front door and the guy unlocked it. The inside was just as gorgeous as the outside. The vixen looked around with a smile. “Now then, there’s still somethings I need to talk to you about before we get you settled in. Plus you’ll need to eat something since it’s close to lunch.”
Shine then realized just in that moment how hungry she really was. Nicholas took her to a section of the house that looked like a parlor. There were comfy seats and two sofas. It was a beautiful place. “Have a seat, I’ll be right back,” the fosky said and left the vixen and her thoughts. She looked around. There weren’t any pictures of Nicholas in his youth in here, just ones of what she guessed were famous people from Loft Ereborn. The guy came back a few minutes later with a cart that had food on it. “Is that for me?” the vixen asked cutely.
“For both of us,” he replied with a smile. The two sat down to eat. The food was excellent but they kept quiet as they ate.
When it was consumed Nicholas looked at Shine with a serious look. “Now then… I think it’s time I told you the rest of everything,” he said. “And it all starts with the staff of Ish and Loft Ereborn.”
Shine took it off her back and laid it out in front of her. “Once I get started it’ll take a while. Unless it’s unbearably necessary, please don’t ask too many questions. Now then, I’m not going to ask what religion you are. But are you aware that every major religion and ancient civilizations all have stories on how the world was created?”
“Yes,” the vixen answered.
“Good. Well… there is a part of it that every one of them leaves out. It was done on purpose so that a certain something wouldn’t fall into the wrong hands, paws, or wings. Needless to say, even a place such as this had some bad people appear. Even to this day, crimes happen here. Just not as often as down on the ground. Well… while not everybody can agree on the world’s creation due to modern religion and science, there is a key moment that is left out. This happened right about when the first ancient civilizations arouse. There is archeological proof of this. During the creation of this world, there were eight specific points on the planet that were strong with a force. This force is a source of power for elements. Not the ones on the periodic table like Oxygen and Carbon but what could be considered mythical ones.”
“There are one for each point; fire, water, wind, ice, stone, earth, light, and shadow. Yes, I know that in some cultures water and ice are the same thing as for stone and earth. But in this case, there are some things that make water and ice separate from each other as it is for stone and earth. In any case during the times of these ancient civilizations species discovered these points and learned to harness this power of these individual elements. Using these they realized this power could very well destroy the world which is why the first leaders of these elements came together to form an oath to protect the world from any dangers. As a result eight cities were built at or near the point of where the power source of that element was.”
“And… this is for wind?” the vixen asked even though she already knew the answer.
“Yes,” the fosky replied. “Loft Ereborn is indeed near, very near the source for the element of wind. That is why all species here who aren’t avian are born with a pair of wings that come out at the age of five. It is why in the skies below this city we can walk on the air. We have the ability to grant that power to others temporarily. And what’s more all of us, some more so than others here in terms of strength, can control the element of wind itself.”
The male moved his fingers and even though there was no breeze Shine felt it and saw it moving the currents here. The fosky then continued. “These cities were made so only a few from the outside world knew about them. That’s why all knowledge of these places was erased from history. If people knew about this it would mean destruction or the end of the world. There would be those who would abuse this. Which is also why these places are invisible and hidden from any means of tracking even with modern technology. Only our enemies, the Yuga Clan know about these places but they are banned. They are just as secret as us which is why the modern world doesn’t know about us or them.”
“By what would this clan even want to ruin things?”
Nicholas let out a sigh and looked to Shine after a bit. “First, and understand this because it’s very important to understand. Just like with those on the ground, not all who wield these elements are good. Some go bad, and then there are some that go just as bad as one can get. While they are dead this clan are made of individuals who are those that go bad and are criminals seeking revenge. They had found the key to Ish’s temple but luckily, we were able to get it back after some fighting. See the scar on my chin? It’s no ordinary cut. Something like that can only come from a weapon they wield, and an evil one at that. They’re masters of infiltration, fighting, and disguise. That is how two members were able to get into that archeology group. I talked to Kilroy about it a little. At least she knows to be on guard herself.”
“Thank god,” Shine said. “But what does this have to do with Ish?”
“That staff she gave you was made by us. The materials are a combination of metals. But what’s more is the spells that are put on it by use so that it’ll never dull, rust, or break. And Ish was given it when Katar Hol came to the ground long ago. Yes, that is the name of her husband, the fosky from this city. The one who loved her and married her after they stopped the evil in her land which was some of the enemy who had gone bad. With it she was able to keep up with him and use her own form of the element of light. This is what he looked like.”
The guy pointed a picture of a statue that showed the ancient person. Shine looked at it and saw how much he looked like Nicholas. “Wait… are you?”
“I am,” the fosky replied. “Like you are with Ish, I am a reincarnation of Katar. I don’t know what this means in the future but I’m hopeful. I couldn’t believe it myself when I learned this but now I know there is no doubt.” His words raised even more hope in the vixen. It really meant they were supposed to be together.
“Even with our powers we in this city believe in a higher power, even greater than ours. There are other forces at work even we can’t understand. Still… in regards to them they met and you know the rest of that tale. And ever since then we’ve learned about her and him. For thousands of years these cities have combined the element they control with science, technology, and magic. All ruled by a king and queen. And that’s where we’re staying at is the house of the ones that rule here.”
“Wait this isn’t really your house?” she asked. “Are you some kind of prince?”
“Not at all in both cases!” Nicholas stated. “I’m not related to our rulers in any way. The truth is that they have no kids. So that means someone has to take over for them when they die. It is up to them to decide who rules unless the rest of the people deem them not worthy. Our government here is somewhat both a monarchy but mostly a democracy. But my parents… well they couldn’t rule but the rulers here knew that out of everyone I was going to be the best candidate and everyone else agreed. It’s not surprising since the same thing happened to Katar Hol. So while they rule the rest of their days in their retirement home elsewhere I stay here learning what I can. Just like with Katar I to have gone to the ground to learn what it means to live a humbler life in order to better understand those who I’ll eventually rule. It just so happened for him he met his future wife in South America. Just like I arrived at the area you lived at. Or some believe that. I won’t say what I think or believe yet. Regardless even this won’t affect me towards you in any way that you can think of.”
The vixen just took this all in and her memories of being Ish were making this of Katar Hol to be true. However the part of not affecting their relationship told Shine all she needed to know that she could be with this fosky. Even after he became a ruler here she still could be. “That is all I have to tell you that I couldn’t before.”
“It’s a lot to take in,” the vixen stated.
“I know. Which is why for the next couple days at the most we’ll stay here. Then I’ll show you around the city. Once that’s finished… the time to train you like Katar did with Ish will come. If we’re are attacked you will need to know how to defend yourself.” The female nodded, she understood. “That is why we went through that particular tube to reduce our age.”
“Wait, what?” Shine asked.
“The reason you felt younger up at the clouds is because you are. That tube has properties which we don’t understand. The only thing we know is that anyone over the age of 19 will have some years taken off of them. Because we went in there at about 26 we have been reduced down to our 18-year-old self’s. We have been given a second chance with the maximum amount of years someone can be given back by going through that tube. Only eight years. The lowest is one. And it can only be used once. That is why people usually do it around the same age we do to get a second shot at their youth like this. Or those much older so they can live a little longer. So in a sense we will live eight years longer than our original life span. But the reason is so you are once again at the beginning of your physical prime as am I. Only I haven’t lost any of what I can do. And so you can learn at a much faster rate of how to fight instead of starting at the age of 26. It will help.”
Shine took in his words and knew she could do this with Nicholas. Ever since the temple and run into Ish, the vixen had a change in her. Now the female knew what it was. “I think now it would be best just to get you to your room and then relax the rest of the day. Tomorrow I’ll show you around the house,” the fosky stated.
“I’d love that,” the vixen replied. They both got up and grabbed the luggage, ready for what lay ahead.
