Raccoon Cuddles: A Glimpse into Orøstrand (2010)
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Captured in April 2010, this heartwarming photo showcases two raccoons sharing a quiet moment together at Orøstrand. Taken with my Canon PowerShot SX20 IS, this image highlights the softer, more cat-like behavior raccoons sometimes exhibit, nestled together in their enclosure.
Orøstrand holds a special place in my life, not just as a former resident but also as a trainee zookeeper. I spent part of my youth here during the 90s and later returned for an education in animal care, learning from master teachers in this unique petting zoo environment. The bond I developed with the animals was rooted in mutual respect and understanding. I was never afraid of the animals, but I always approached them with the awareness of their potential dangers. This respect is essential for anyone working closely with wildlife, ensuring a healthy and safe relationship with the animals.
The Canon PowerShot SX20 IS, though not the most advanced camera, was perfect for capturing moments like this. Its 20x optical zoom allowed me to capture these intimate moments without disturbing the animals, and its image stabilization ensured the clarity and sharpness of the shot. This camera was my reliable companion during my days at Orøstrand, documenting the everyday life of the animals and the special bonds we shared.
This image is a testament to the unique environment at Orøstrand, where animals and humans coexisted in an educational and nurturing setting. It’s moments like these that remind me of the importance of understanding and respecting the animals we care for, always keeping in mind their natural instincts and behaviors.
