... which is 7:18 am here. We're in third winter now, 15 F and windy with flurries. Missed the blood moon last night because of it.

Gray, steamy, humid 55 degrees. Snow almost gone. Spent the weekend changing over the snow tires. Why do I even bother? They do save the summer tires. Threy're nice for the few times when you leave on a snowy morning. That might have been 3-4 days this season.

I have them on for 4-5 months, depending on how cold it gets, it helps with the icy conditions because they do not salt the roads here.

I once left my snow tires on my Tercel for three years; they were quieter than the summer tires and hardly wore at all.

Just got an invite to visit a friend in Florida for a week. Just not sure I want to fly Trump's friendly skies......

Life has enough risks. Left court in Bridgeport last week after dark. Note to self: Bridgeport is a different place after dark, especially now that the Holiday Inn hotel is now apartments.

Yeah. I used to say that I wasn't afraid to walk anywhere in Canada after dark, but I'm rethinking that philosophy.

Well, other than wolves, bear and moose.......
Actually, a friend and client was murdered in Canada during the biker drug wars of the 90's.

well, we've never been crime free, but back in the day you could go into practically any bar or neighbourhood safely ... although a tactical retreat was sometimes in order. Now there are so many guns on the street in some parts, and they're in the hands of people who have no idea how to use them or any sense of restraint. The biker wars started it, I think, when they started blowing up people with innocents nearby.

Well, you can't be that close to a sleezy neighbor without picking up some bad habits.....
A problem here, too. Connecticut has fairly strict gun laws. New York City even more so. But with so many jurisdictions with little or no regulation, it's impossible to stem the flow. VA is 5 hours away, and it's the gun supermarket for the Northeast. Just a trip down I-95, and buy as much as you want, like we used to do for cheap untaxed cigarettes. I've got a permit to concealed carry. I got fingerprinted, background checked, needed some character references and finally had to take a state mandated course, and demonstrate actual proficiency at the range. My friend is an instructor, and encouraged me to take his class for free. Another friend of ours is a gun enthusiast, and let me use his Walther for my range qualifying. Nice little weapon; just the thing that say an intelligence professional might find useful.

I seem to recall a friend that used to carry the PPK model ...

Back when I was an apartment resident manager, I kept a Smith & Wesson 357 Magnum, 2"barrel, loaded with hollow points. The Walther is much classier than that.

I've fired a Walther but never owned one. I had a .357 Colt Python with a 6" barrel, very good for IPSC, competitions, as was my favourite gun, the Glock 17. I also had a .22 cal Browning target pistol that would have made a fine close-up assassination weapon. Had some black powder pistols also.

Dad shot in competition. He shot an M1 in tially, but had a HiStandard 22 pistol for target, and a custom made Danish 22 for rifle.

Oh yes, mine too, a Hi Standard Supermatic Citation, not the top of the line but getting up there.

CT used to be a firearm and munition maker. The most famous building in the state capital is the Colt Building.

Really? Maybe more people would visit CT if they knew. All we ever get is the 'Holiday Inn' references - "How can I tell him when I don't know where is Connecticut!"

We're pretty happy with things as they are. For maybe three weeks a year, we become the Fall foliage capital. and then the New Yorkers go back home.

There are both. There's a car show where one of the perks is you get a day pass to the marina club. Candlewood Lake has a number o facilities where you can enjoy the water. Rita's family owned the property next to the "Down the Hatch" restaurant, and we still like to go back there to enjoy average food with spectacular views.

A good view goes a long way, and average food is still better than half the food out there.

Very nice man made lake, created for hydro power. My father in law was there when they flooded a huge amount of land near his farm. Today the lake still belongs to the power company, and everything on the lake is leased from the power company.

We get a lot of that up here. When they did the Saint Lawrence Seaway Hydro project whole towns were flooded. They too some of the most iconic buildings and moved then to a new site called Upper Canada Village where they do historic re-enactments of life in the 1800’s.

Not so much of that anymore, as a law passed that prohibited the generating plant owners from actually selling electricity. So we're right by a generating plant, and we buy our power from someone else. Used to be nice; with a major power facilility nearby, all of the supplies and emergency vehicle were right here. Now, no one has anything on standby; They rely on mutual aide, and private contractors, meaning in any major disaster, we wait a few day for trucks and crews from across the nation.
Trump world more depressing than ever. While people are on track to either destroying Tesla, or forcing the board to fire him, this tariff thind is more troubling. Potentially, it sets up a scenario like what preceded the great depression.

Yeah, we're glad that shouldn't need to buy a car anytime soon, but I pity the autoworkers that thought their jobs were secure after the USMC deal was signed.

Out big thing these days is bugging the grocers to bring in fresh fruits and vegetables from other places, like BC and Ontario where greenhouse production exceeds the local need. One of the big issues here has always been provincial trade barriers that prevented the lateral movement of goods, but thanks to Trump they are all coming down.

Still OK at the grocery store- you can have whatever you can afford.

Oh, we have it, US goods that is, we just don't want it.

I was behind an SUV that had an "I stand with Trump" sticker on it. Right across from it was a "Denali" sticker, totally unaware that Trump decl;ared "Denali" out od existence, similare to the "Gulf of ZMexaco"

Maybe more- why should all the 'great' lakes be in the upper Mid West?

Hey, we still have Lake Winnipeg which is huge as well as Great Slave Lake and Great Bear lake. All's you got is Great Salt lake ... and it's shrinking.

We're situated between Candlewood Lake and Squantz Pond, Danbury has it's own lake, as does the valley We also have a creek on our land, and the Housatonic River at the end of our street. Which is neat, until you realise that it leaves you but one way to easily access the property. Not optimal if there's a flood, a fire, or an MV accident.

Ha! When I went through the Academy we had to inscribe an encoded version of the Holy Bible in Hebrew, Arameic and Greek on a grain of rice, coat that rice with wax, swallowit and pass it to our instructor three days later perfectly clean and decodable.
