Live in home

Noah jumped down the steps each of them three times his height he almost broke his ankle on the last step as he ran into the bushes planted either side the front steps to the pet shop, Noah was terrified using a sharp fragment of metal and some homemade rope it had taken him three weeks to get out of the pet shop after being captured by the owner of the house he was hiding in, she had taken him to this pet shop. This world was not meant for humans this was a world ruled by giants.

A gigantic avian walked by Noah was tiny just above ants humans, to the giants, humans were pets and best and snacks at worst, there were hundreds of them those giants just walking around he doubted they would even see him or care if they stepped on him, Noah needed somewhere to hide so find food and shelter the ironic thing, they could only be found in the most dangerous place. A giant's house and to get to one he would need to run from this bush the fence would take time hopefully not too much. Noah had escaped the pet store he was not about to found by some small child to be played with and broken, another couple went by with their child and then some cars went by the thunder of their engines made Noah's ears hurt, he cowered in the bushes waiting for the right time, he waited for a gap in the giants walking by he could go after this gazelle.

After the gazelle had walked by the stomping of his hooves shaking the ground, Noah ran for the fence posts then a massive foot descended almost crushing him, Noah dived to the side scraping hit arms on the pavement the labrador like biped wore a t-shirt and shorts kept waking, she hadn't even seen him. Noah ran it took him almost a minute to reach the fence posts taking cover behind them, next to the pet store on either side were houses massive and modern constructions just getting across the front lawn would take time at a full sprint it would take him five for six minutes and this was a relatively small house, but it was better than out there, he did not run, he just jogged taking cover in the grass every now and again.

Noah was hungry and tired he walked up to the front door there was a gap under the door he squeezed under it, inside it was all white walls and polished floors it was small for one the giants it had a short hallway which Noah was standing in, the walls seemed to stretch up forever at the end of the hall was on open plan kitchen a small dining table sat in the centre of the room as Noah walked further in he saw the sofa and large TV mounted on the wall there were two doors along the hallway. Noah did not bother looking in these his goal was the pantry, it was set into the wall next to the island bench despite his fatigue Noah ran at the prospect of food, it took him a long time he scampered across the floor.

Ebernessa pulled into her driveway in her small black car it was not old but it was not new her dress was, it was formal and fit for her new job her hair was long and silver with light curls her scales were a dark grey and her under scales a lighter shade she had light green eyes, her tail twitched slightly as she got out of the car and closed the door she walked across the yard.

The real estate owners had removed the for sale poster and the movers had moved all her things in for and luckily for her she knew the old owner and she had left the house stocked with food, Ebernessa using her keys opened the front door she took off her high heels sighing with relief as she walked into the kitchen area, it was small the sink and stove were on the island bench and there were more cupboards then she knew that to do with there were cupboards under the island bench, under the bench set into the wall, and there were cupboards mounted on the wall. Ebernessa took an apple out of the fruit bowl in the bench then took out a chopping board and knife and set about making a sandwich she went over to the pantry to get out something spreadable, she stopped there was something moving, she picked out a thread the lead from the floor of the pantry could be a spider or she thought, a human Ebernessa had never had a human in her house before, she had seen them in pet shops before but she had heard things about them how they stole you food and put ropes all over your house, she got out a jar and opened the lid and sniffed it.

Three days and there had been not another living being inside the house when out of nowhere the dragon came it, Noah was crouched behind the fruit bowl trying to control his heart rate and his breathing as the dragon, a female was making something to eat, now begin the game of cat and mouse for Noah he had always lived like this he knew how to set up and conceal ropes so he could get food and he even now was stockpiling food inside his little home. It took time and effort but Noah had, had three days and that sofa was a wealth of rope and stuffing, he took it from underneath so the giants would not see and he had found a place to live in the giants home, there was a small fissure in the wall it was were the sofa met the wall but now it was a game of survival the dragon finished making her meal and sat down on the couch.

Noah blessed the fact that he had three days to prep he moved slowly the loss of access to most of the party sucked it had taken most of a day to get that thread to sick, but there was plenty more under the sofa and she hadn't seen the one that let him get up onto the benches, Noah made it all the way to the edge of the bench and making sure the dragon was not watching him he climbed down the rope. He didn't get anything today but he had food stored so it should be fine the dragon seemed content to watch the TV slouched over the couch feet dangling over the edge and tail draped along the floor, but Noah was still nervous there were two large stretches of open ground between him and his safe haven but he made it.

And that is just how life was Noah had been taught how to survive by his parents before they had been taken from him the memory was recent and bitter, Noah sat he was alone he had escaped from the pet store, from certain death his by a child. Noah's parents had not now he lived like a rat cowering in the house of a bigger creature stealing its food and taking cloth to make his own clothes and belongings Noah laid down it was sleep time, he was going to need to learn this new dragons habits and he was going to have to be very careful from now on.

Three days Noah observed, and he watched the dragon, she had habits just like any other creature

Ebernessa woke up to the sound of her computer, not her alarm she threw aside the sheets and turned it off she had left running all night by accident, Ebernessa's PJs were bright pink and covered with rainbows and sparkles they had been a present from Ava last Christmas, Ebernessa yawned and walked out of her bedroom she rubbed away the sleep and went to go and make herself tea. It was still dark but she was not one of those people who got back to sleep easily, she walked down the hallway and turned the lights on, she saw something a shadow move Ebernessa shook her head probably nothing she filled the kettle up and boiled it she got out a mug from the dish rack and jumped and a human took flight, she dropped the mug and cursed she tried to grab the human but it was surprisingly quick it darted left and right dodging her hand.

Noah's heart was beating at a hundred miles an hour as the ran full speed trying to get to the edge of the bench if he could just make it to the edge, down the rope and under the bench, a glass wall slammed down in front of him he ran into it, he looked up at the dragon she looked down at me she let go of the glass and walked over to the sink and turned the tap on. Noah started banging desperately on the

glass.

With the water running Ebernessa turned to the human trapped under the glass she lifted the glass up slightly and slid a small plate under it, she lifted it up the human was trying desperately to escape the water was still running. Ebernessa looked down at the human she could see the tears in the humans eyes she looked down at him, his eyes met hers he shook his head slowly, he put a hand to the glass he didn't want to die Ebernessa stopped, she didn't know what to do on the one hand it had probably been stealing from her like a rat, but she couldn't just kill him could she? It was just one human, after all, no one would know or care, Ebernessa reached out turned off the tap she sighed and walked to the front door, she opened it and placed the plate on the ground she lifted the glass up the human looked up at the dragon into her bright green eyes, she nodded and then turned closing the door with her tail.

Noah was breathing heavily the dragon had let him go, he sat there on the plate wondering what to do he could not just go out there it was dangerous then again going back was just as dangerous, what if she found him again would she kill him? Or would she maybe look after him? Noah jumped off the plate and snuck back into the house the dragon was cleaning up the broken mug she did not seem to see him she turned her back and set about making herself some tea.

Out of the corner of her eye she saw the human scuttling across her floor and then she saw it the little fissure in the wall just were the sofa met the wall, she knew where he lived now she smiled and went into her study to get out a pen and paper.

Noah woke up he was tucked away in a corner he had used some stuffing from the sofa for a bed he got up listening for the sound of the footsteps of the dragon there were none, he stepped out there was a plate outside the entrance on it was some very finely sliced apple and some bread with a note done in very small and neat handwriting.

Hey there, I made you breakfast I hope you like it!! and I'm sorry about last night's events you just scared me I'm glad you came back name is Ebernessa by the way what's yours

Next to the note she had left some graphite from a pencil Noah picked up the graphite it was as thick as his arm and braised himself then untidily scrawled his name under Ebernessa's note, then he ate the food on the plate and then feeling safe for the first time ever went back into his room to sleep and sleep he did well for once, feeling like there was someone to care for him this was not just about surviving now.

When Ebernessa got home she picked up the plate and looked at the note smiling to herself she stuck the note to the fridge and before she made Noah and herself dinner, took the time to unwind from what had been a very stressful first day at work, she untied her hair from its tight bun and felt it cascade back down her back and over her shoulders, she shook her head and took a moment to look around the house, it was clean she poured herself a glass of water, it was getting darker it was basically dinner time when she got home so she about making it now, tonight would be something that Ebernessa affectionately called everything wraps, it was very simple you took a wrap and put everything into it then you toasted it she cut out a small piece and wrote another note and this time she set down a plastic tub full of water.

They went on like his for several days just exchanging notes every morning when she woke up, she would make herself breakfast and give a small portion to Noah and she would leave the note then Ebernessa would get ready for work and head off, on the third night before went to bed while she was laying on the couch she knocked on the wall and said goodnight to Noah, a few seconds later she heard a small knock and that from then on became their signal to each other in the morning and at night. Ebernessa would knock on the wall to say good morning and goodnight and they learned more about each other through notes, in the morning though Ebernessa never saw him maybe he didn't like being seen that's what Noah had spent most of his life doing, all the same, she asked Noah if he would meet her on the bench for dinner that night on the note she left him she wanted to actually meet him.

Noah had not been expecting this request when he got up he had been happy to be heard and not seen truth be told, he was terrified of Ebernessa she had been nothing but kind to him after their first meeting but still all it would take was one misstep or accidentally dropping something and it would be over, even if she had the best intentions Noah just sat in his room he had a nervous feeling in the pit of his stomach what if he didn't show what would she do? on the other hand, all she wanted to do was meet him, so Noah got dressed in his best clothes, which was not saying much he cleaned his face and did his best to make his hair not a mess and as the sun began to sink below the horizon Noah clambered up the rope onto the island bench, he waited for Ebernessa to come home. It did not take long he resisted the urge to duck for cover as she walked down the hallway, but she did not even see him as she untied her hair shaking her head as she walked over to pick up the plate and note she had left in the morning, she read the note then looked over at the bench, over at Noah.

'So' she asked you 'will be joining me then?'

Noah nodded.

She walked over and stood over Noah the bench was a waist-height for her.

'So, can I expect to see you more often now?' Ebernessa asked.

Noah nodded, 'I will be spending less time in my hidy whole now,'

'So do you any requests for dinner?' she asked.

Noah shook his head again

'You don't talk much, do you.'

Noah coughed, 'nev, never needed to' his voice sounded strange, even to him he could not even remember the last time he had spoken.

'Sorry' Ebernessa said.

Noah smiled for the first time in a very long time, he smiled, and he shook his head, 'no, no its fine its not your fault the world is like this.'

Ebernessa smiled down at Noah, 'I wish I could change things though it just not right but well I can't but I can feed you, I'll see about dinner.'

Then came a knock at the door.

'Fuck shit fuck shit, shit' Ebernessa exclaimed.

'Ebernessa' came two muffled voices.

She closed her hands around Noah.

'Hey, what's going on?' Noah asked panicking.

'Just say here and stay quiet' Ebernessa said, panicking as the dropped Noah into a mug with a spoon and a teabag in it then she ran to

open the door, Noah had no idea what was going on than two new voices clearer now

'Ebernessa' they both said, 'happy first week at work.'

'Aw guys' Ebernessa said, 'you didn't-'

'Preposterous' the first voice said, 'we are here to celebrate with you.'

'Dam right' the second new voice said, 'and check out your new digs.'

Noah cowered inside the cup as all three of them grew closer, was this some kind of sick joke? become his friend then invite her friends over so they could all have a piece of him.

'Wow this place is nice' the second voice said, 'very modern.'

'Guys' Ebernessa said 'I was kinda in the middle of something.'

'What?' the first voice said.

'Oh' Ebernessa said sounding very nervous, 'I was just-' then Ebernessa yelled 'wait Kira don't.'

Then Noah's world was turned upside down as the mug was knocked over, he rolled out he looked up into the snarling face of a giant wolf its blue eyes blazed with fury, its fur was mostly a light gold with white accents its ears were flat and it seemed to almost have a collar of fur around its neck which was white and puffed up.

'Human' it spat raising a fist up, this was the second voice.

Noah raised his arms up as it that would protect him but before the arm could descend another one, this one an avian grabbed it, Noah looked over there was an owl like giant with bright white feathers and brown accenting fathers, she had bright intelligent golden eyes then Ebernessa shoved them both out of the way, there was a hoot of protest from the avian and a yelp from the wolf.

'Oh, my Noah' she said 'I'm so, so sorry I just wasn't expecting' she stopped.

Noah was curled up in a ball crying, she reached out a hand but Noah just tried to get away she withdrew her hand she turned to Ava and Kira, Kira the wolf looked confused as Ebernessa stood defensively next to the human Ava was looking at the human, whose name appeared to be Noah and Ebernessa, thinking.

'What the hell is going on?' Kira asked somewhere between outraged and confused 'it's just a human.'

'I think this may be more than just a human' Ava said.

'Yes' Ebernessa said, 'Noah is my friend.'

She picked Noah up despite his protests and walked over to where he slept 'there you go' she said, gently placing him on the ground.

He ran into the small hole he did not even look back, Ebernessa stood and walked over to where Ava and Kira where standing.

'Ebernessa, I'm so, so sorry I didn't know' Kira said.

'I know' Ebernessa said, leaning on the bench she sighed heavily.

Ava put a hand on Ebernessa's shoulder 'I'm sure he will be fine' she said kindly, 'besides we all know Kira can take some getting used to' she said with a small smile on her beak, reading an avians expressions also took some adjustment.

Then Ava moved aside, and Kira said somewhat awkwardly 'so should we like say orrrr go?'

'I'll be fine on my own' Ebernessa said.

'Next time we will call ahead' Ava said, as they turned to go.

Ebernessa nodded she felt sad, her friends had just wanted to celebrate but Noah needed support she just didn't know how to help him ,he had almost been killed by someone Ebernessa considered a good and close friend because she had not told them about him. Hell until tonight she hadn't even known if he was comfortable around her let alone others her size, she had been waiting until he said he was ready to meet others and now he had and one of them had tried to kill him.

Noah was crying still he had almost died just then the wolf had raised her fist up about to bring it down and end him kill him the night had been going so well what had even happened? had been Ebernessa's fault? who even had they been and hadn't that owl saved him Noah was confused terrified and confused as he lay there then there was a knock on the wall and Ebernessa's voice

'Noah are you ok, Noah please I just need to know, I know you scared but just give me a single tell me that you're ok.'

Noah did not knock back truth be told he was afraid, those two had come out of nowhere he did not want to have to go through that again Ebernessa had not been there to protect him that time only the intervention of the owl had saved him, what if she was too late again? and what if there was no one else to save him that time?

Ebernessa waited for a knock in reply but none came, she sighed 'look, Noah I'm sorry about that, I'm sorry but Noah please' said almost pleadingly 'I won't fail you again you mean more to me than just a friend, I want to look after you but there is more to life than just that, just surviving.'

Again there was no reply Ebernessa lay on the couch feeling dejected she put the TV on she didn't watch it not really, she looking at the TV but she wasn't taking it in she just lay there, then sometime later Ebernessa jerked awake she looked around something was poking her tail Ebernessa ignored it she just wanted to sleep, it became more insistent eventually she sat up and looked down at were her tail had been and there he was, Noah standing there.

'You came out' Ebernessa said 'to see me even after.'

Noah nodded 'I thought about what you said and I feel the same way about, about you, you looked after me and you don't just see me as a

pet you see me as a friend I'm sorry about earlier, the giants that came over.'

'No, that was my fault' Ebernessa said, gently scooping up Noah 'I didn't tell anyone about you not even my friends, I was afraid people might think I was a weirdo if I was friends with a human, or if you were even comfortable around me let alone others as big as me.'

'Then you can be my weirdo' Noah said, hugging Ebernessa's finger, 'my comfortable to be around weirdo.'

Ebernessa held Noah close to her chest 'thank you Noah,' she said she lay down again holding Noah 'for trusting me I will not let you down again' and Noah sat there in the palm of her hand Ebernessa lay on her side holding Noah close to her chest still she nuzzled Noah again and this time he rubbed her muzzle back smiling.

'I trust you Ebernessa' he said.

They sat there together Ebernessa and Noah they fell asleep together Ebernessa sprawled across the sofa and Noah asleep in her hand.

The next mooring Ebernessa woke up and Noah was still asleep in her hand she smiled down at him so small curled up her palm she wondered what he was dreaming about she set him down as carefully as she would on the couch and got up to make them both breakfast he did not stir she smiled down at him she bent down and gently pressed her lips against him.

She stood up straight again and went about making breakfast she cracked three eggs into a pan this woke up Noah he managed to get up onto the arm of the sofa he sat back and watched Ebernessa cook, every movement was smooth fluid she almost seemed to be her element or maybe she was showing off. Noah had no way of knowing she added spices and some strange crumbly white cheese like  substance that Noah could not identify after the eggs were done, she spooned some into a bowl for herself and some onto a thimble for Noah, then she set the table. She looked over at the sofa and saw that Noah was awake she walked over.

'I'm going to pick you up Noah is that ok?' Ebernessa asked.

Noah nodded.

So Ebernessa gently picked Noah up and placed him on the table next to herself and they sat down and ate together and despite the fact, the Ebernessa's eggs were piled several times higher than Noah it still took her less time to eat them, after dinner they talked, Noah finding that the more he talked the easier it became, they talked about many things Noah's life what it had been like to grow up in this world and Ebernessa, in turn, told Noah about her childhood about growing up and how she had gotten her job working for a tech company the unpleasantness of last night forgotten.

'Have you ever had wine?' Ebernessa asked suddenly.

Noah shook his head and Ebernessa stood 'I will be right back' she said, taking her bowl and Noah's thimble as she went.

She walked over to the kitchen putting the dishes in the sink and taking out of the top cupboard a green bottle.

'I don't know if you're supposed to drink this at room temp' Ebernessa muttered to herself, then she shrugged and took out a small glass for herself and another thimble for Noah, who would usually use a cup he had made for himself to drink he would just take it from the water tub but this was a special occasion she set down the thimble full of yellowy bubbly liquid, Ebernessa took a sip from her own glass.

'It's not poisoned' she said, as Noah eyed the strange liquid.

Noah sniffed it, he pulled a face.

'C'mon just try it' Ebernessa said.

Noah took a sip and spat it out, 'that is the foulest thing I have ever tasted, oh got what even is that.'

'Crushed and fermented grapes,' Ebernessa smiled she drank the rest of her glass.

Noah looked up at Ebernessa, 'how can you even stomach that it tastes like actual shit?'

Ebernessa laughed 'I suppose it's an acquired taste.'

Noah nodded in agreement.

'So, are you still going to some out and eat with me?'

Noah nodded 'I would like to.'

'Good' Ebernessa said, 'I would love to see you more often,' she put one hand on the table and rested her head on the other hand.

'me to' Noah said he walked over to Ebernessa he sat next to her hand that was one the table, he was about half the height of her pinky but

he felt safe she put a hand on hers, Ebernessa looked down fondly at Noah.

'Noah,' she said almost hesitant 'I know this is a bit strange for you, it certainly is for me but do you' she trailed off.

'Want to be friends?' Noah finished for Ebernessa.

Ebernessa nodded turning her hand palm up, Noah clambered up onto Ebernessa's palm, she raised him gently to eye level.

'Yes' she said, 'or maybe something more.'

Noah looked into Ebernessa's eyes, they shown But Noah didn't say anything he was thinking Ebernessa must have read his thoughts.

'Noah' Ebernessa said she looked suddenly sad, 'I'm sorry about you know.'

Noah nodded 'it, it is ok.'

'No, it's not' Ebernessa said, she put Noah back on the table and crouched down, she folded her arms on the bench and rested her head on them, 'I almost killed you like were some common pest, and that was just wrong I don't know if you can forgive me but I hope that you do then last my friend did the same, she tried to kill you like some pest, but you are so much more than that, humans are more than that and I am truly sorry I am, that will never happen again I will never hurt you nor will anyone else.'

Noah looked at Ebernessa he took a tentative step closer then another, he had never been this close to a giant willingly and yet this dragon; Ebernessa meant him no harm, he sat down right in front of her muzzle she breathed out gently ruffling Noah's hair and then Ebernessa did something she was not planning on It just sort of happened, she moved forward slightly rubbing Noah with her muzzle he didn't hug her back or anything like that but nor did her cringe away, Ebernessa pulled back suddenly.

'Sorry' she said.

'No' Noah said, 'I liked that I just didn't know how to react.'

Ebernessa smiled she nuzzled him again this time parting her jaws just a little and licking Noah gently Noah hugged Ebernessa back.

'Ebernessa' Noah said.

'Yea' she replied, quietly.

'I love you.'
