Nicholas and Malika began their walk with him leading the way. The female Anubian Jackal had both her arms crossed over her chest, keeping a good few feet from the fosky, and looking at anywhere else but at him. The male was just fine with that and growling in his head why he had to be in charge of the female. In just the first ten minutes Malika had shown disrespect, anger, and hatred towards him. Nicholas felt rescuing her had been a mistake. The guy stole a glance to see if she was even following and saw she was but giving him the cold shoulder. The fosky hoped he wouldn’t have to do this for much longer. “Well… I guess I’ll start by showing you around the place where the guard stays since you’ll be staying here,” he said.
“Whatever,” Malika growled. This caused him to bare his teeth in a snarl.
“Anyway, there’s not much here but a place to chill and relax. It’s right here.” Nicholas was having a very difficult time of controlling his temper. The female took a quick look and then they were out of the guard housing and into the main palace. Her light blue eyes saw that this was fancier but could stand to live at the guard area even if Nicholas was there since there was enough space between the rooms. She was certain she could get the one farthest from his.
The fosky then walked and the female followed, feeling like his father’s eyes were still watching her to make sure Malika moved. “Well anyway, we have the banquet hall were everyone eats there and the kitchen,” Nicholas said in a flat tone, pointing out the double wooden doors. “No need to show you that yet.”
Malika now was the one to hold her temper but she still glared at the back of his head. He must have felt it because the fosky turned his head with a snarl. “What?!” the male growled.
“None of your damn business!” she snapped.
“Bitch…” Nicholas growled under his breath this time.
The two continued on the first floor, going past the main exit and entrance to the palace. Then came some other doors. “These are studies and other areas for guests to relax before they seek an audience before our rulers,” the fosky explained. He then went on to show her the other points of interest such as the armory, observatory, and ball room areas. The second floor of the palace wasn’t looked at due to that being where the throne room and rooms of the royal were at. Then came to the outside area which had the courtyards for friendly fights and the pool. But there was one more area left.
“Before we met them, there is the garden here,” Nicholas said and led Malika under a gateway made of plants. Her eyes widened in shock at the many flowers and other vegetation here. There were pillars made of marble that had vines growing around them that were in bloom. There were also statues and bushes in different shapes. In that moment she forgot her anger and hatred of the fosky and her arms unfolded, going up to a nearby plant to look at it closely. Nicholas noticed this but then thoughts of how she behaved before came back.
“If you want to take a look around first…” he said.
The Anubian Jackal then came back to the present and folded her arms across her chest, that snarl coming back. “Maybe latter!” Malika snapped. “Now take me before the rulers!”
“Well excuussse me, princess!” the fosky replied in a mocking tone, putting on a fake bow, his eyes ablaze with hate. “Let’s go, your highness!”
The female growled and followed Nicholas in a huff. They climbed up the stairs and made their way to double doors that were rich in designs and had two guards on either side. “We’re ready to see them,” Nicholas told them and they opened them up.
The fosky and Anubian Jackal slowly walked across the royal red carpet, their footsteps not making a sound. She saw that this place had a number of windows to let in the light as well as the walls had arches with carvings on them. She then saw the male and female sitting on the two thrones at the end. One was a grey wolf and the other was an arctic fox. Both of them had a few wrinkles which showed their age, but the eyes bore strength and fire still. They were in similar garb as the younger ones but the lines were golden in color and they even wore a crown to show their status. Nicholas and Malika made their way forward and he knelt before them. The younger female hesitated upon seeing this and did the same thing.
“Welcome Nicholas and Malika,” the lupine stated. “Rise both of you.” The young species did so.
“You… know my name?” the Anubian Jackal asked.
“Nicholas’s father Vincent told us about you coming here and how his son is your guide,” the vixen replied.
“It’s not like I begged him for the job,” the fosky growled.
Before Malika could snap at him, she noticed her sword was by the lupine. “My sword!” she stated.
“We wanted to make sure you weren’t a spy or something,” the male ruler explained. “But now we return it to you.”
The Anubian Jackal rose up with Nicholas looking to see what she would do. She accepted it from the lupine and drew the sword from the scabbard. The other three saw the handle curved a bit down and that the blade itself curved in a little. The color was steel and they saw Malika swing the blade a few times and twirl it before returning the weapon to her left hip. The sheath had an attachment so it could go on her new clothes easily. “Thank you,” the Anubian Jackal replied.
“So you really know the ways of the sword,” the wolf ruler said. “We’ll see what you can do later. In the meantime I should introduce myself. I am Ajihad and this is my queen, Natasha.”
“It’s nice to meet you to,” Malika replied.
“You really are quite young though,” the vixen commented. “Tell us how you came to pass out near our city.”
The female Anubian Jackal went silent and her face went dark as a shadow went across the eyes as she looked down. “Oh, I’m sorry, of course it can wait if you don’t want to talk about it…” Natasha said quickly.
“It’s fine…” Malika replied in a dry voice.
Ajihad leaned over to his wife and whispered in her ear. “When you are ready, you can tell us. As long as you mean no harm or evil, you can stay for as long as you like,” the lupine said. “If that means the rest of your life, then that is fine to.” Everyone else noticed the young female’s face return to normal. “In the meantime, you will live in the guard housing area until you decided to either move out to a home in the city. Or you can stay here, the choice is yours.”
“Forgive me, your highness…” Nicholas said, his eyes bearing anger again. “By why the hell should we allow her to stay when all she’s done is be ungrateful and a bitch?”
“Say that again, I fucking dare you!” Malika shouted, whirling around to face him, her right paw going for her sword.
“ENOUGH!” Natasha yelled which caused the king and the other two to look at her in surprise and the furious tone she had used.
“She is right,” the lupine stated in a stern voice, quickly recovering from that shock. “Regardless how you two feel about the other, my orders still stand. No matter what she has done, she is a guest here. You will treat her as such, understand? And Malika, he will continue to be your guide during your time here. Even when you have learned the layout of our city, he will accompany you, understand?”
The two species glared daggers at the other as he stood up before turning their heads in the opposite direction in anger. “Fine…” they both growled, knowing they wouldn’t win this argument.
“Now then Nicholas, take her to the banquet hall. There’s only an hour and a half before dinner. Me and Natasha will see you there tonight.”
“Thank you, your majesty,” the fosky replied. He began to walk away and Malika saw the vixen give her a gentile wave to leave. The Anubian Jackal had no choice but to follow.
“They may be nice, but I don’t see why the hell you have to be in charge of me all the time,” Malika growled to Nicholas. “I’m going to move out of here as fast as possible to get away from you!”
“The world ain’t big enough!” he snapped. “I certainly hope that attitude of yours gets you kicked out when you act like an ass tonight!”
“As if! Must be an honor to eat with the king and queen of the city!”
“Oh it’s a big one,” Nicholas replied, turning to look at her, eyes narrowing with anger and a growl in his chest. “Even we of the guard rarely get to sit and eat with them. Usually only visitors do on a regular basis. So let me make this clear. You may have charmed my father and them, but I see you’re nothing more than an ungrateful, arrogant, angry bitch. So don’t fuck it up with them tonight for me. Got it?”
“Wasn’t plaining on it!” she snarled. “Especially since unlike you, they can act proper! I intend to be on their good side!”
“Then we’re on the same page for once.”
“Don’t think it’ll happen again.” The two continued in angry silence, thinking about the other in a negative light as they made their way to the banquet hall. But the day wasn’t over yet.
