Ssevarine 1
Title can't be empty.
Title can't be empty.
Well, it's been a long time coming, but I finally have a pet snake.
Her name is Ssevarine and she is an 8 month old Cinnamon morph Ball Python.
She's in a 10 gal tank for now, with moistened tropical substrate and some repti-bark strewn against the bottom. one watering dish, and two hidey holes (one of which is partly underground for added moisture and warmth). IT's not the most glamorous setup right now, but in time I will be slowly adding to it and making it prettier. I do have to get a thermometer and a humidex to make sure she's in the right range for both.
I'm told by the breeder I got her from that she refuses Frozen thawed mice (the preferred form of food, rather than risking health to feed a still alive and survival-instinct ridden rodent), but I'm going to try next wednesday anyway. I would rather play it safe.
First time snake owner, so I have a lot to learn, but I'm glad to finally fulfil one of my life long dreams. it's not a big deal to most, but I've wanted a snake since I was 8 and my family has always been violently, aggressively against it due to my mother being an Ophidophobe (afraid of snakes.)
So yeah, Living in London, got a pet snake, got a job that lets me continue with my writing. Can't really ask for more right now.
And since that was my last major purchase for a while, I can start truly saving up.

As a piece of advice, as a former snake-owner myself, if you're feeding her live mice for the time-being (which is perfectly safe...don't let anyone tell you differently), train her with the box method, which will make giving her pre-killed food easier down the road.
Get an empty cardboard box, and put her in it for a couple minutes before you drop the mouse in. She'll start to associate being in the box with food. After a couple months, you can try switching to a thawed (warmed slightly in the oven) mouse, and then see if she'll take it.
I feed our ball pythons at work thawed frozen mice and we have two that wont eat them so I know that feeling.
Got my salmon morph red tail recently too, we can be snake bros -wingfist-

If your interested in taking a peek.
I was thinking of getting a Red-Tail boa, but even the full sized tank I own isn't big enough. Now that I have my first snake, I feel like I want to get more, once I'm confident in my abilities to care for her.
