Chapter 2: Explanation
The device that Nicholas’s master made for him looked a bit like a breathing mask with ear buds attached to it. And it worked like a charm. Although the Padawan looked a bit silly, now he could fully understand and communicate with the Nelvaanians here. Huralaz-Alaz was delighted by this. In fact she didn’t even seem to be scared of the male human. The young Nelvaanian showed the human all around the village, explaining everything. He of course just took it in stride, sometimes asking questions about things and the ones who lived here. “This is something else,” stated the human. His voice sounded a bit like on a communicator, but otherwise sounded perfect. One that Huraz-Alaz could understand perfectly.
“Well we do okay,” she responded with a smile. Nicholas was able to hear what she said easily and could understand the Nelvaanian. The two didn’t seem to notice that the other young ones and the older females were occasional watching the two; some with smiles, others with wonder like they couldn’t understand the bond and friendship that was already being formed between the two. The little one’s parent didn’t seem to mind while the master of the Padawan was too busy to really see what was going on between the two. While Neron was looking into what they had come here for, the older male set up a small training area for Nicholas to continue his training in meditation and lightsaber combat. The younger human still had the same one used by younglings since it would do until the actual one was built. And it would be during this that Huraz-Alaz would learn something as well as Nicholas.
One day the human was at the place and meditating. He could still only go for five minutes at the most. When that was finished, Nicholas brought out the sphere that could shoot the shots to practice his lightsaber combat. The device began to float and move about. The padawan brought out his lightsaber; the blade was light green in color. He took a ready stance and then began. Even though he was young, the human was slowly beginning to learn all the lightsaber forms and creating his own style. He figured that this would allow him to deal with any situation he came across. Right now the helmet wasn't being used since Nicholas needed a break from it and using his instincts; letting the Force flow through him, guiding his actions. The male human knew that like with his meditations this would also get better with time and practice. Occasionally a shot got him, but most were deflected. However this hadn't gone on for a minute when Nicholas turned off his weapon and turned to the left with his whole body. "I can sense you hiding there and watching. You may as well come out." The human really could.
To his surprise it was Huraz-Alaz who stepped out. And she was surprised because he could. "How did you know it was me?" the female asked. "You couldn't have smelled me."
"No, but there are other ways." The Nelvaanian came to where he was.
"So what are you doing out here with that thing that glows and sitting down in the snow?" Nicholas looked at Huraz-Alaz while thinking if he should tell her. During the time spent with the female something about her kept popping up. More like a feeling that there was more to this person that at first glance. But would it be wise to reveal such a thing to someone who most likely didn't believe in the Force? Then again why should it matter since the male thought it was most likely that he and she wouldn't meet again? And yet something was telling Nicholas otherwise.
"Well… I don't know," he started, wanting to see if this would get the female hooked.
"Oh come on! Please?" It was such a cute look that Nicholas couldn't say no.
"Well alright. But first I need to ask you something. What is it that you and the other who live here believe in? I don't want what I tell you to interfere with it."
"Well… that would be the Great Mother. Everything that happens here we believe is because of her. But I have always thought something more was out there beyond her. Seeing you and Neron arrive shows this. And also I've felt there was something more powerful as well. I've always been able to feel it."
With this the human male thought maybe this female would believe him. "Well… I guess I should just start by telling you that I'm a Jedi."
"A… what?" Huraz-Alaz asked, unsure of the term.
"A Jedi. A peacekeeper in the galaxy. So is my master. We've come from a place called Coruscant which is part of this system called the Republic. So it's a long ways from here. And there is where Jedi operate at."
"There's more of them?" asked the Nelvaanian. Both took a seat in the clearing.
"Many more," he answered. "It's been that way for over a 1,000 generations. Even more I think. We're different in the fact that we have special powers. Thanks to the Force."
"The Force?"
"It's what gives me and the other Jedi our power. You stated you sensed something more powerful than the Great Mother. Well the Force is it. Think of it like an energy field that's around us created by living things. And it flows through us that can sense it. We call those being Force Sensitive."
The Nelvaanian didn't say something like what Nicholas had said was ridiculous, but nodded in understanding. "So… what was that thing you were doing with the glowing stick?"
"Practicing with my lightsaber." The two stood up and he showed her; even allowing the Nelvaanian to hold it and activate the blade. "It's got safety features so I don't hurt myself. It's nothing like my master's. His can cut through just about anything. Except another lightsaber."
The Nelvaanian didn't responded to this but just focused on the weapon. Holding it in her paws made something awaken inside the female. A thing that made her feel alive. She then deactivated the blade and gave it back. "You said that there were powers in being a Jedi. Like what?"
"Well I guess I can say what. It increases our natural abilities. We can sense others and things happening as well as foresee things that are to come. And we can move things with it." The two sat down again and he demonstrated with some of the snow, calling it to his hands. The female watched on with a bit of a surprised look, but not a scared one. A second latter the snow that had been moved fell from the human's hands. "I'm nowhere near as strong as my master. It's only been a year since I've started training. But I'm getting stronger all the time." The female made up her mind in a split second after being told this.
"Well… I don't know what else to say." Nicholas smiled and turned to begin heading back to the village. "Other than it sounds like what I can do." The human stopped in shock and slowly faced Huraz-Alaz.
"What do you mean?" He didn't want to believe it.
"Ever since I can remember… I've been able to move faster than even the males. I can see things they can't. Even dream like states like what the shaman here gets. I see visions of attacks from the wild creatures here before they attack. And they happen but we always repel them away."
Nicholas just listened in silent shock. Was there really more to this Nelvaanian than at first? She had just described powers only those Force sensitive and Jedi had. Could she be strong in the Force? Enough to be a Jedi? If that was true, things would need to be considered. "Nicholas?" asked Huraz-Alaz, snapping him out of his thoughts. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah. Come on; let's get back." The two left. The young male wasted no time in telling Neron about what had been said by the Nelvannian.
"Well I won't deny that I thought there was something different about her," commented the older human. "There is one way to tell for sure. We'll get a blood sample from her and get a Midi-Chlorian reading."
Latter that night, the three were sitting outside and looking up at the stars. Nicholas had told Huraz-Alaz that his master wanted to see her for something. The Jedi master showed the young female the device that would take the blood sample, stating that he needed it for a special purpose. The Nelvaanian didn't ask too much questions, especially since Nicholas told her it was important and agreed to it. She was also curious to see more technology. "You need to stay still," said Neron as he cleaned an area. "I won't be able to do what needs to be done." He could speak the language these natives spoke which was how he was able to communicate with them.
"I've always looked up and saw the many dots of light," she stated. "Do you know what they are?"
"They're called stars," Nicholas answered.
"They're so pretty to look at. Do all of them have a place to live at like me and where you two came from?"
Neron looked at her with a smile. "Most of them do have a system of what are called planets. This one is one, and so is the one we came from."
"Has anyone been to them all?"
"Not to my knowledge, no," stated the Jedi master.
"Well at least this also proves what I've thought. That there's more out there. Maybe… maybe someday I'll be able to leave here and see what's beyond this planet." Neron got the blood sample and she felt a stinging prick that made the female grown.
"There were are. You'd better get to your home. It's getting late." Huraz-Alaz nodded and began to leave before looking back at the two humans.
"Goodnight Nicholas. Thanks for telling me those things."
"Goodnight," he answered and watched her leave. The master and padawaan made it to their ship and turned on the computer inside which was working. The older human brought it up and both were shocked by the result.
"The reading is almost as high as yours," stated Neron. "She is Force Sensitive. This is the first time a Nelvaanian has been found to be so."
"Master what does this mean?" asked Nicholas.
"It means this changes things. Don't worry; I'll take care of it." What it was would be found out very soon.
