KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS

“Who… are you?” I asked the strange man. The fact that he had on that creepy mask made it all the more difficult to read his face. He jumped up with glee by the question and leaned in close , a small card slowly rolled out from one of the eye sockets of his mask. I assumed he wanted me to take the card as he didn't move a muscle nor say a word. Hesitant, I grabbed the card and examined it, seeing that it was from one of those old gambling games that usually ends with someone losing a lot of money. This card in particular was identified as the joker. The man booted back to life, his enthusiasm remained constant. “Dear boy, I am called by many names. From friends and even foes! My tricks brings joy and delight to all who see, but you shall call me The Fool, one of her Majesty's knights!” He chimed.

“So you're like a comedian or something? That costume is far  from what you claim to be don't you think?” I wasn't impressed at his appearance but for some odd reason, I couldn't help the urge to smile at him. “My sole purpose is laughter because laugh is fun, laugh is life, laugh is everything!” He said with the utmost pride. The fool was indeed an odd man but as I learned more about him, the man was more than just a form of entertainment for the masses.

“Are you excited for your new position? A life full of adventure and action just around the corner!”

“Wait what? I thought that all a advisor does was….give advice.” The fool chuckled at my assumption smacking me on the shoulder and forced me to walk with him. “It's more than that Dex, advisor is just a title for the public. You have more power than you think! We can't forget the treasuretrove of secrets that lie behind closed doors.”

I turned to look at him, only find that he was gone as if he was never there. I knew the man was right beside me from the start but no trace of him was there.

“Me for instance! Only our majesty and a select few know of my existence, plus my comrades.” His voice appeared behind me. Startled, I jumped around to see that he was standing on the ceiling, looking up at me.

“How did you do th-”

“My dear boy, the queen chose you for a reason. Just like how she chose me. Will you look at that, it seemed like we arrived at your room.” he said, directing my attention at another wooden door to my left that was opened slightly. “We'll meet again very soon Dex!” the man then vanished into a puff of black smoke.

I wanted to say that he used magic to perform all of those feats, but there  was something far more sinister under that mask. With nothing else to do, I walked through the door expecting to see a empty room but was surprised to see that it was decently furnished. Shelves containing all sorts of books and scripts took the majority of the room’s walls with an step ladder placed up against the far end. Two leather recliners at in the middle of the with a oak coffee table separating the pair, I couldn't help but noticed a bottle standing on said table. A large collection of dust told me that the room wasn't used for quite some time but still had that warm feeling to it.

The only thing that was out of place was a black two piece suit resting neatly on the executive desk. It looked like my size, so I took it upon myself to try it on. It surprisingly fit me perfectly and felt comfortable. I gave myself a final look over, using a nearby mirror see what i looked like was satisfied at what stared back at me. I looked like one of those rich playboys one would see on tv! Although, my hair was mess but that could easily be fix with the proper hair products and comb. As I was laying down the furnishing touches, knocking could be heard from the door. I was given little to react when the door busted open and small crowd of boys rushed in, quickly tackling me to the ground as they continued to scream my name.

“Comrade Dex! Never really think I will see you again!” Grizzly's voice called out umust the group. It didn't take long for me realized that it was everyone that was apart of our group! Everyone stared down at me with warm smiles.

“Nonsense grizzly, our leader said that he would bring all of us back and he did! My faith in him never wavered.” Hunter retorted as he pulled the guys off of me.

“It's….I….I can't believe it.”

“We wouldn't be here without you big brother!” A little girl squeaked from the opened door. Unlike the boys, she had a towel wrapped around her body.

“MIRA!” I screamed out as i shoved everyone out the way to give her tight hug. “ I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you. Seeing you laying there broke all of our hearts and i couldn't forgive myself for what happened.” she looked up at me and reached out to wiped away the tears that freely fell from my cheeks. It filled with joy when i saw that her eyes were no longer milky white but an forest green, Mira's vision was restored!

“Don't be sad big brother, the pretty lady in red told me that I would see the stars with you again. You never broke our promise.”

I turned around to see everyone kneeling before me, lowering their heads while placing a hand onto their chest.

“Dex, Not even death could stop our devotion to your cause. We will stand by your side no matter what.” Hunter said with an smirk full of confidence.

“How did you know where to find me?”

“Oh! Yeah the new kid showed us the way.” The medic called out, gesturing back at the door again. There stood a boy I thought was part of my own mind. A boy who showed me my inner faults and desires. Vincent, stood there with that iconic smile on his face.
