I always pay most attention to facial expressions, it's the most important thing. :-)

But, how do you manage on such a....well, a reptilian face? there can't be much to study from. Do you just experiment and get it right?

In fact, I own a lot of "Dinosaur" books... these are very good references. I use photos from actual dinosaur skulls and try to... "fill" them with life. I try to use my own imagination, experience, knowledge and references for my creatures.
Why experience? For example, many human beings AND even animals can show facial expressions. I observe them and try to transfer it to my own reptilian creatures and other beings. ^^
Observation is very important... and practise.

Yes!, I've always seen the resemblance between Devon/Reptile and Mr. T-Rex there (my brother was HUGE into dinosaurs), I just never knew what you would use as a sort of reference or inspiration aside from that. ^__^ I still think it's fascinating how you can adopt such human emotions to such a reptilian face. I mean, another one of my favorite artists is Mr. Ciruelo Cabral, and while his dragons are extraordinary, there's still that sense that there's lacking internal emotion and thought that you accomplish so readily--it's all beast. I wonder why that is beside it just being a different style of art.
