Software Streamlining Working Group
The Software Streamlining Working Group was created in early 2025 by Chief Information Officer Marc Hoit in response to a >60% increase over the last 10 years in Software Licensing increases. OIT’s Software Licensing outlay has increased by roughly a half a million dollars per year over this period, with more variable corresponding increases all over campus.

In May of 2025, the committee created a software cost streamlining report and a set of recommendations to reduce current costs and develop a sustainable model for future purchases. These recommendations include reviewing the current framework for determining how software is purchased and managed, develop purchasing guidelines focused on meeting functional and regulatory requirements while achieving economies of scale, and developing a framework for recommending software license for elimination, reduction or consolidation.
