COMPETITION
Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
STATE-WIDE COMPETITIONS
From the beaches of Sussex to the hills of New Castle County, athletes from every corner of the First State come together to showcase their skills, determination, and sportsmanship in our exhilarating statewide competitions.
WINTER COMPETITIONS
Experience the thrill of winter sports with a unique twist! Our dedicated Delaware athletes train on home turf, then journey to the snowy slopes of Pennsylvania to compete in the exhilarating Winter Games. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Special Olympics Pennsylvania for their generous hospitality and support in making winter sports dreams come true for our Delaware athletes.
USA AND WORLD GAMES
Athletes can advance to higher levels of competition by meeting specific criteria, which vary by sport and event. The USA Games are held every four years, with participants representing Team Delaware. The World Games alternate between Winter and Summer editions, occurring every two years. At the World Games, athletes represent Team USA.
