The name Smulders HSM represents over 100 years of proven track record and experience in steel fabrication for the Civil Engineering and Oil & Gas Industry. As a pioneer Smulders HSM started in 1973 its offshore activities focusing on upstream developments. In 2002 Smulders HSM contracted the world first offshore renewables contract the 160 MW – Horns Rev A project in the Danish North Sea for Energynet.

Founded in 1914 as HCW (Hollandsche Constructie Werkplaatsen) in Leiden, a company focusing on industrial activities.
1967 – 1990
HCG, Hollandse Constructie Groep, Leiden and Schiedam, The Netherlands. In 1973 HCG started it’s first Offshore activities, Schiedam.
1990 – 2000
HSM, Hollandsche Staalbouw Maatschappij, Schiedam, The Netherlands.
2000 – 2004

HSM Offshore Energy was acquired by management and Gilde Equity Management.
Ambition is to grow the organisation from a yearly revenue of approx. 100 million to 175 million in the EPCIC markets of Offshore Wind, Green Hydrogen, Gas production and Carbon Capture and Storage by 2025.
Resulting in a key focus on the offshore energy mix, leveraging first mover position in the offshore energy transition.

HSM Offshore Energy was acquired by Smulders, part of the Eiffage Group, and will continue under the new name Smulders HSM. This marks the next chapter in our growth. Together with Smulders, we are creating a Centre of Excellence for the offshore renewable energy industry—ready to deliver the energy infrastructure of the future.

Leadership Excellence at Smulders HSM
Smulders HSM’s management team, led by CEO Jaco Lemmerzaal (TU Delft, 1987) with 36 years of experience, and COO Gijs Kaashoek (TU Delft, 1991) with 32 years of expertise, including 12 as Deputy Managing Director, offers a wealth of knowledge. CCO Hans Leerdam adds 23 years of international management experience to the mix, with senior roles at Equans, Boskalis, Dockwise and several board memberships in the offshore renewables industry.
