A Breakthrough for Babies: Scotland Rolls Out Newborn Screening for SMA as of today!
Today marks a monumental milestone, one we are proud to celebrate, as Scotland introduces SMA newborn screening for Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). From 23 March 2026, every baby born in Scotland will be screened for SMA as part of the routine heel prick test.
