Ok, so I've not been using this thing in forever...again.

However! There are least three people on my friendslist who live in the Boston area, that I haven't met yet, and would love to. My husband is out of town from June 17-29, which means I should probably really make myself get out and have human contact. Anyone interested in meeting up then?

Today is the 220th anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights. Today Congress has a passed a law codifying indefinite military detention without a trial and requiring it in some cases. You may have heard that it exempts American citizens. I don't think citizenship should matter in who gets what I believe should be a right to all humans. But quite aside from that, as the bill is currently worded, Americans are not absolutely exempted from indefinite detention - merely not required to be detained, on the President's discretion. I have read the sections of the bill on detention myself, and agree with the analysis in the article I linked to above.

I know of no one, outside of Washington and who has read this bill, who thinks this is a good idea. Yet, President Obama has said he will sign it today.

He hasn't signed it yet. Americans who are reading this, please join me in calling and emailing the White House to state an objection to this bill. Preferably calling. Phone calls are harder to ignore and if the system is flooded perhaps the White House staff will get a clue and pass it on to the President before he signs.

It's not much, but it's worth my 10 minutes to exercise my voice as a citizen. I'm tired of shrugging and saying 'them's the breaks'.

That was just *weird*, Fringe. I mean, this is the show named Fringe, and that was uncomfortably weird. Are we cycling through self indulgent fandom tropes now? 'Cause I think I've RPed this storyline. Knowing it was crack.

I just did a small flist trim. Mostly people who haven't posted in a long time. If you're lurking and would like to be added back, just let me know, and I'll do that!

The husband and I seem to be passing upper respiratory infections back and forth. I spent the second half of the week running a fever, which is so not conducive to productivity on any front.

I'm very pleased that all that really needs doing housework wise is a load of dishes. The attempts to be neater seem to be working even when I'm delirious. I suppose the real test will be when I'm out of the house every day.

ETA: Husband: We have the plague.
Me: Declare a quarantine zone; burn it all down.
Husband: This is how zombie movies start.

Later: Husband: I will be witty when (I laugh)...shut up. Cohesive sentences? That is so 98.6.
