Frequently Asked Questions

As an innovative, world-first product, customers often want to know a little more about HIDE. So we’ve gathered up the most FAQs for some easy reading! Please do let us know if you have a query which we haven’t answered below.

What HIDE size do I need?

Measure the opening/recess you’re covering, then choose the kit size that suits it and your finished surface layout (tile module, paver set-out, etc.). For Skimmer Lids, use this quick guide:
• Skimmer basket opening 280mm or less → HSL306
• Skimmer basket opening 280mm or larger → HSL342
Skimmer Lid kits are commonly available in 306, 342 and 412mm square, with inlay depths to suit different finishes.

Where can I purchase a HIDE product?

HIDE is based in Brisbane, Australia. We supply nationally and internationally. All HIDE products may be purchased from us directly, or through one of our reputable suppliers or trade partners.
The different options available to purchase a HIDE product are:

2. Call us and speak to our team, available during business hours on 07 3807 2551.
3. Head to the SUPPLIER page to find your closest HIDE supplier.
4. Your pool tiler or builder may supply the HIDE product as part of the full pool project. Ask your tiler or builder to include it in their quote.

What inlay materials can I use?

HIDE is designed to accept most common outdoor finishes, including tile, stone, pavers, concrete, decking and artificial turf (depending on the kit and project detailing). The key is choosing the correct inlay depth for your finish thickness and planning finished levels.

What inlay depths are available?

Most stainless-steel HIDE kits offer 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60mm inlay depth options to suit typical outdoor finishes.

Can I replace a standard plastic skimmer lid with a HIDE Skimmer Lid?

Yes—HIDE Skimmer Lids are commonly used as a retrofit replacement for standard plastic lids, and also in new pool builds. Measure the existing opening/recess first to confirm the correct kit size and depth.

My current loose-stone skimmer lid keeps breaking.  Can I replace it (retrofit) with a HIDE Skimmer Lid?

Yes, indeed you can! We'd love to see your pool area fitted with a shiny new HIDE Lid!
If your current lid was originally cut by your pool tiler or builder and loosely fitted, a new square recess can easily be cut (by a contractor) over the existing skimmer to allow for a HIDE lid. In most cases the new recess area can be cut to accommodate an existing HIDE size. However, if it cannot, HIDE can easily manufacture a custom-size lid to fit (for further information please contact our admin team at admin@skimmerlids.com.au for pricing and specifications).
Please allow extra time for the custom skimmer lid to be supplied. There will be a slightly higher cost involved due to the one-off manufacturing process.
Please be mindful, that if retrofitting a HIDE product (whether standard or custom), you will need to fill the lid with the material which matches the rest of your landscaped area (to achieve a seamless finish). Your existing area may be tiled, or paved, in which case you will need a matching tile/paver. If you do not have a spare paver/tile on hand, please contact us directly, or your nearest supplier, to locate a new tile which may be a close match.

Why does HIDE use a Safety Key—can the lid be lifted by hand?

HIDE uses a Safety Key access system so the lid can’t be lifted by hand. It’s designed to be child-resistant and helps prevent unauthorised access. Each kit comes with a key holder, so you can store your HIDE Safety Key with the rest of your pool equipment away from children.

Do stainless-steel HIDE covers need bonding/earthing?

Bonding/earthing requirements vary by jurisdiction and by how equipotential bonding is implemented around the pool. Many guidelines reference bonding conductive items within 1.5m of the water’s edge—always confirm requirements with a licensed electrician. HIDE stainless-steel covers include a pre-drilled bonding/earthing hole in the frame to allow connection where required.

If bonding/earthing a stainless cover is difficult, HIDE offers a bond-free option using polymer, intended for “bonding not achievable” situations. Choose the option that matches your project requirements and confirm with your electrician.

I’ve lost my Safety Key, can I order a replacement?

Yes—replacement keys can be purchased if you have lost your HIDE Safety Key. Faulty keys may be replaced at no charge in some cases – contract admin@skimmerlids.com.au for warranty.

What are HIDE Access Covers used for?

They’re commonly used to conceal access to DWV, valves/meters, irrigation, tanks/taps, electrical junction points, removable fixtures/poles, 12V lighting connectors, and termite traps/bait stations (inspection access).

Can grout lines and patterns align through the lid?

Yes. HIDE covers are installed on-site so tilers can align grout lines and patterns for a seamless finish. You can also mix finishes (e.g., tile + stone) if thickness and fit suit the selected depth.

What is a HIDE Linear Drain Cover—and is the channel included?

HIDE Linear Drain Covers are concealed strip drains designed to be inlaid, leaving only a fine, minimal edge visible instead of a grate.
The drainage channel is not included (channels are widely available in Australia via plumbing suppliers and retailers such as Reece and Bunnings).

What are HIDE Concrete Covers and when are they installed?

HIDE Concrete Covers are wet-pour concrete infill covers designed to disappear into exposed aggregate and polished concrete finishes. They’re typically installed during the slab pour for the most seamless result (matching mix batches).
HIDE Concrete kits are designed for a 40mm wet-pour infill depth.

What makes HIDE Linear Drain Covers different to standard grate strip drains?

HIDE Linear Drain Covers are a premium alternative to grate drainage: 316 stainless steel, grate-free, less surface build-up, easier cleaning/removal, and a discreet finish with only ~2mm visible at the surface. They’re also the first fit-for-purpose linear strip drain system specifically designed for exterior use. Bond Free when installed with Everhard/Reln strip drain, the intentionally designed length allows for seamless integration with surrounding tiles regardless of tile size / ability to pattern match

What drain channels are HIDE Linear Drain Covers compatible with?

The Tile Linear Drain Cover is compatible with Everhard and Reln drain channels (channels come in different lengths and depths).
The Concrete Linear Drain Covers are designed to suit the Everhard Easy Drain.
