States Win Action
Building Bridges for Democracy
The State Bridges program activates States Win volunteers across the country to fundraise for organizations leading nonpartisan year-round civic engagement and community organizing efforts. Together, we can uplift local leaders and strengthen democratic participation in states with current or historical voter suppression and in traditionally marginalized communities.
We support local grassroots organizations because we believe in the power of these organizations to expand civic engagement, and support traditionally marginalized communities such as women, and communities of color in building long-term infrastructure for meaningful public participation. This work is critical—it helps connect individuals to the issues they care about, fosters ongoing participation in civic life, and deepens understanding of how government and policy impact daily life.
Through this work, individuals are more likely to be civically engaged over time—not just during politically or culturally salient moments —because they feel empowered, informed, and connected to their communities.
The State Bridges program provides a mechanism for the States Win community to fundraise for a select group of partner organizations leading this critical work in key states. State Bridges is a 501(c)(3) compliant program.

Our Approach
By supporting organizations that engage in year-round nonpartisan civic participation, we help ensure that local communities are equipped with the tools and knowledge they need to advocate for themselves and participate in the democratic process. Our partners help to strengthen civic infrastructure by providing education, resources, and community leadership development opportunities.
This year, States Win will hold two virtual fundraisers to support eight State Bridges partners. Each event will be hosted by States Win volunteer teams and feature special guests from our partner organizations. The interaction during State Bridges events gives us an opportunity to learn more about what’s happening on the ground in these critical states.
How do we choose the organizations we support?
We evaluate organizations for inclusion in our State Bridges program in consultation with leaders and organizers on the ground. To be included, organizations must conduct year-round, nonpartisan in-state constituent outreach and nonpartisan education and civic engagement efforts. By prioritizing early funding, the program ensures these grassroots organizations have the flexibility to address emerging challenges, particularly those that affect women and underrepresented communities. The program also intends to build bridges between national volunteers and local organizations, amplifying the voices of community-based groups. We prioritize organizations that work in states that States Win has identified as part of its nonpartisan civic engagement strategy prioritized based upon underrepresented communities facing both historic and current voter suppression, and that are led by Black, Indigenous and people of color (BIPOC), women and/or young people.
