Nice to meet you!

I am Lucas Miller and I have been literally “singing the praises” of nature for over 30 years. I aim to inspire people to respect and care for wildlife through creativity, humor, optimism, and energy. I use music, storytelling, video, puppets, and whatever else makes it as fun and memorable as possible.

As a child, animals were my first obsession. I roamed the suburban parks of Lexington, Kentucky, looking for frogs and turtles. A little later, I got into music. I taught myself to sing in the bathtub and later picked up saxophone and guitar.

I went on to study zoology at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. I also played in a noisy rock band. We never made it “big time” but we sure had fun.

After graduating, I worked as an educator and “shanty-man” on an 80-foot sailboat that took kids on field trips to teach them about marine ecology. When I started playing music for kids, I was hooked!

I moved to Austin, Texas, in 1993 and was the first education director at what is now the Austin Zoo. I started my own business in 1994 presenting on-site programs for schools, festivals, libraries, parties, and more.

And what do you know, I made it “big time!” These days I get to play on some pretty cool stages and around 3 million kids have seen my live performances. I love what I do and am so grateful to have made a career creating, inspiring, learning, and teaching. If you love nature, we’re going to be friends.

Here are some things I'm proud of:

Having done this for over three decades now, I regularly hear from grown-ups who saw me when they were a kid. They write to share their fond memories and tell me how my music and stories became a part of their childhood; maybe it even inspired them to pursue a job in science. NOTHING could make me more pleased and proud! I mean that.
