Since the advent of cell phones and mobile technology mankind has been trying to get better battery life out of them.
Lowering your screen brightness is the first way you can maximize your battery life.
One of the best ways to help to prolong battery life while in use is to adopt a battery/power consumption plan. Many new smart phones and mobile devices often boast such features. Many of them include the adjustment of the screen brightness. In most instances, especially from personal experience the screen can account for up to 50% of the battery usage. This of course will vary greatly from user to user and the general use of the phone and the applications run.
You may also consider using the auto adjust feature to select the best brightness setting depending on the environment you are in. Too low may be good for battery life but poor for comfortable use.
Monitor background services learn to stop them of turn them off
The applications you run and the frequency at which they are run also affect your battery life. It goes without saying that a video playing app will consume more that a music playing app. However some apps and by extension features may not be present at the fore front. Many of them may be background services and add-ons to programs that continually operate even if the program is not in use by the user. These can slowly drain your battery.
Care should be taken though, some background services may be necessary for the operation of the phone switching them off may cause instability.
Switch off unused functions completely
Also during the day many features may be on that are not being effectively utilized. For instance when ever a phone is on it is continually searching for a signal. By switching this off you can use other feature of the phone and save power, similarly if using you laptop or other device if you are not using the internet then you can turn off the wifi receiver. Similarly feature like GPS and bluetooth need not be on constantly, they however should only be activated on an as needed basis.
Use battery as much as possible to as low as possible.
Similarly to effectively maximize the charge that your battery can hold it is often best to use good battery care techniques. The first concerns charging. It involves using as much of your battery between charging. Do not think that you can top up you battery charge. Try to use your battery to as low a level as possible (approximately 30-20% for normal every day usage).
Completely discharge your battery every two months
It is recommended that you discharge your battery completely. This would entail using it until 0% or near 0% is achieved.
Charge your phone using the wall plug adapter
It is often best to charge the phone quickly. With this said it is best to charge your phone using a wall outlet and not the USB on computers. Specifically because the power supplied by the USB on PCs is less than that output by the wall adapters, hence the wall plugged units charge faster.
Try not to use your phone while charging
While the phone is charging try not to use the phone, this impedes the charging time. Having the battery being charged and in use at the same time could lower the lifespan of the battery.
Discharge and remove battery before prolonged storage
It your device is going to be put down for an extended period of time then it is best to completely discharge the battery and remove it from the device. Both the battery and the device should be stored in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight.
Turn off your phone completely when not in use
When going to bed at night take off your phone.
Use a black background
Less colour then less pixels have to be powered, thus saving power.
Try switching mobile networks, 3G vs. 4G vs. GSM vs. WCDMA
Depending on your location different signals and their strengths would give you better power consumption characteristics.
Use your device less
This does not mean that you must deprive yourself of your device; it means that you should instead use your device wisely so you do more in less time with fewer features turned on your device. In that case of your phone we are not saying don’t talk, just talk less, or have shorter conversations. Try texting instead.
Keep the volume low instead of putting it to vibrate
The mechanism to vibrate the phone consumes more power than the speakers. Use the speakers on low volume to alert you of incoming messages and calls.
In general the best ways to maximize your battery life is to use your device wisely and efficiently.
