I am exhausted as far as political and social issues goes. Yesterday was not a good day, what with talk of two serial rapists in Baltimore, the situation in Maine, and the general pervasiveness of idjits on the intarwebs. There were two bright spots: both the Emma Thompson thing and the fact that Expedia is now sucking up hardcore to catvalente due to public outcry, and she and her husband are on their way to Russia.

I even managed to get a fair amount of custom work done yesterday-- today is packing and shipping and a rehearsal with swords. My dance life invaded my dreamspace last night. On Belladonna's sword DVD, there's a move called the "Slash and Drag" that try as we might, Flissy and I just cannot get. A big part of that, I'm sure, is that the DVD was filmed face to face, instead of the traditional back to the audience, front to the mirror. So I not only have to figure out the move, but flip it to mirror it. And I'm really, really bad at that sort of thing. I can't figure out the Slash and Drag to save my life, even freeze framing it, so I guess I'll just have to ask her in person or something. But anyway, in my dream, I was going to her class for a final exam on swordwork, and I had to perform the Slash and Drag, and I just froze. And suddenly, I was pantsless and I couldn't pull my pants back on. Brain, you are so obvious.

In the realm of other things that are not particularly newsworthy, my 10/1 Haunt order fiiiiinally touched down.

So, I stopped in the bead store today to pick up some silver. I hadn't been in in about a month, so I was catching up with the owner. He told me that Anita, one of his two salesladies, had left to retire, and her replacement couldn't work the full week. He'd been having a really hard time finding someone to cover the shifts left over.

"What days?"

"Wednesday and any other day you want."

"I'll work for you."

"You're hired."

That was the whole interview process; I've been a loyal customer for two years now and he knows I know my way around the shop. I'm going in next Thursday for my first day, then I'll likely be working Tuesdays and Wednesdays, since Flissy and I moved Verve rehearsal to Thursday. No bead discount that he mentioned, but on the other hand, he's paying me well over minimum wage, or even the usual wage for retail in the area. I have to be there at 11am and I get off at 6pm, right about the time that Jason is passing the shop on his way home. And it's a 3 minute bus ride from a well lit and populated stop if he can't pick me up.

There is no bad here. It'll be a nice cushion for the winter and will ease my money worries considerably. And I'm working at a bead shop.

I need some celebratory wine.
