PACKET CORE

5G is around the corner and we can already to see the first 5G networks going live around the globe. However, these new 5G networks will co-exist with the existing 4G ones for a long period of time. The journey to 5G Core is not simple, though, and will imply a technology shift with the adoption of a new 3GPP defined network architecture (service-based architecture) and new network functions built on cloud native technology.

Mobile Core network gateways are an extremely large and complex product, and our client needed to strengthen their development organization with several new teams.

They reached out to Sigma, and a first team was set up working with the Packet Core Control Plane solution.

The need quickly increased, and based on successful deployment of the first team, four additional development teams were set up. The teams work with architecture and SW development in C++ for Linux, implementing new features for 5G networks. Many features are customized for network operators, and the teams deploy their solutions all the way to customer networks as part of our clients CI/CD flow.
