SHL Coach Milestone
Our Journey Through the Decades
SHL Coach Work established
We commenced our bus building business at a rented workshop in Ipoh, Perak. At this juncture, we focused on the building of single deck buses with wooden bus bodies
Moved to larger Ipoh factory
as our business continued to expand, we relocated our business to a factory in Ipoh, Perak (“Ipoh Factory”).
Introduced first metal-body buses
In late 1970s, along with the continuous evolution of the bus building industry, we introduced our first bus with the bus body built using metal.
Began building open-top double deck buses
Purchased Silibin factory; fabrication moved there; other work continued at Ipoh factory
Introduced standardized bus models
In 2011, we introduced standardized bus designs—fixed dimensions, fixed structure—to increase efficiency and ensure consistent build quality.
Consolidated all operations at Silibin HQ
We moved all operations to our Silibin premises, enhancing workflow and operational management. The facility became our headquarter with 1 interchangeable production line.
Acquired bigger land for storage & expansion
In 2020, we expanded our Silibin facility by acquiring a 54,400 sq. ft. adjacent plot to serve as storage for bus body parts, work-in-progress units, and completed buses.
Launched new semi-high deck and high deck models
In 2021, we expanded our range of buses as we launched semi-high deck and high deck buses.
Export to Singapore and introduced new model
In 2023, we ventured into the export market by securing our first sale to a customer in Singapore. We also expanded our product offerings by introducing closed top double deck buses.
Added 2 more production lines, boosting capacity further
In 2024, we further increased our bus building capacity by setting up 2 additional production lines at Silibin Premises.

Managing Director
Joined in 1971, became partner in 1977, and co-founded SHL in 1986. Leads the company’s strategic direction and overall operations.
Bernard Ng
Executive Director
Joined in 2012 and appointed director in 2020. Oversees daily operations, business development, production, and engineering.
