The northernmost territory and the most major of the yokai territories. Taken over by the now-daimyo yokai twenty years ago, it has since then accumulated support from the northern territories as other yokai become leaders of the regions. This was the first region to have a yokai daimyo.

Territories in the north are heavily populated with yokai, due to the fact that the yokai stronghold is located close by. It doesn't necessarily mean that all of them subscribe to the same idealogies, although most territories remain suspicious of non-yokai travellers.

Travelling through the north has its perils, especially as a human - and more so if you come across hostile yokai. It's not uncommon for fights to break out here, or trading routes between human territories to be disrupted.
The capital territory is where the Emperor and his family live, and is one of the wealthiest territories by far. Heavily human populated as a result, the Chrysanthemum faction does most of their operations from the capital.
The southern territories find it easiest to operate trade directly with the capital, and are more of a mix of human and yokai population. The Emperor's stance on cooperation with the yokai has made many people more open to co-existence, but not all are satisfied with this attitude.
The southern areas get especially warm, but it also means that wildlife and fauna can grow bountifully here. Often full of farmlands, the southern wilderness finds it easiest to connect all parts of Shinjima.
The old capital was destroyed in the Calamity, leaving nothing but a wasteland in its wake. No one knows what resides in there, as nothing grows on the soil, and anyone who has ventured past the ruined walls has never returned. Investigative parties nowadays stick to the edges of the old territory.

With the mountains largely located in the east, many territories here operate as mining trade. Somewhat cut off from the rest of the land due to the mountainous regions, there is often feelings of isolationism. They are mainly human populated.
Navigating the eastern routes are difficult and arduous, with the mountainous region - as well as the river running through - proving problematic for many travellers. It is often the cause of delayed journeys for many.
The Shogun's stronghold and the strongest military territory of the land. There is often communication between the Capital and the Nakajima territory, and is also one of the most heavily guarded. It is not without its yokai residents, however, which some are suspicious of.
It is often said of the eastern territories that they feel the safest, due to the military might of the Shogun's stronghold on the coast. Most are strongly aligned with the Shogunate as a result, and will usually come to one another's aid if there are attacks.
Being the wilds between the north and south without the mountains to interrupt it, it's very common for people from all territories to cross each other in the western wilds. What this may mean for those meetings, who knows.
