Welcome to Sheridan Datathon 2025, Sheridan College’s Premier Data-Focused Competition!

Join us on Saturday November 22nd 3 PM to 10 PM and Sunday November 23rd 8 AM to 8:30 PM at the Hazel McCallion Campus for 24 hours of collaboration, problem-solving, and innovation through data.

Work with teammates to create a software project using data. Analyze real-world datasets, uncover insights, and tell stories that matter.

Once you've registered, create a team of up to 5 people. You can create a post in the #find-a-team channel in our Discord Server to find like-minded teammates.

Hackers are forbidden to work on pre-existing projects or to begin their projects before the hacking period starts—and no code written before the hacking period can be used. Teams will need to use a public GitHub repository for their project.

Participants who fail to follow these rules will be disqualified.

What to Submit

In your Devpost submission, include:

  • A link to the public GitHub repository
  • Any deployment links
  • 1-3 minute video demonstrating the project (Optional, but recommended)

⚠️ Please set aside two hours at the end of the hacking period for your Devpost submission. All Devpost submissions must be made before 5 PM on Sunday. There will be no deadline extensions!

People's Choice Award

Judging Criteria

  • Preliminary Theme Check
    Pass or Fail — Does the project align with the theme? Each project must meaningfully incorporate an element of data science. Projects that fail to meet this requirement are not eligible for judging.
  • Execution
    40% — Is it functional and polished? How technically impressive is it? Does the project run smoothly and perform as intended? Are all key features complete and working without major errors?
  • Impact
    20% — Does it solve a problem? Does it have real-world value? How meaningful is the project’s potential impact? Does it address a real-world issue, improve an existing process, or benefit a specific audience?
  • Creativity & Orginality
    20% — Is it new and exciting? Does it push the boundaries for a hackathon project?
  • Presentation
    20% — Was the demo clear and engaging? Did the team communicate their ideas effectively during the showcase? Were the project goals, methods, and results explained clearly?
