Time and Place

Participants can get started on the makeathon once the event commences on at 10:00 AM EST on June 6th, 2020, and making ends at 11:59 PM EST on June 27, 2020.
Our makeathon does not require you to be in any particular physical space for the entire duration, and we actually encourage you to work 100% remotely with your teams (participants are required to follow the social distancing guidelines in their local communities).

Because of the remote nature of this makeathon, participants will be using the makeathon’s Slack workspace and Zoom broadcast as the places to communicate with fellow participants, mentors, judges, and the event organizers. We are not responsible for you in whichever physical or virtual space you chose to participate this event in, whether it is your home, a place of work, a community center, a university campus, Slack workspace, Zoom sessions, etc.

 

Idea/Project Eligibility

The submission project/idea must be new and unique. Additionally, it must follow the theme of the competition. This is defined by coming up with an idea during the duration of the event or coming to the event with an undeveloped idea. Any team that does not follow this will not have their project judged.

 

Code, Design, and Art

To ensure a level field for all contestants, all code, design and art must be created within the duration of the makeathon. We want to ensure that all participants start off on the same footing and we also want to preserve the true nature of a makethon. The only exception to this rule would include material that is publicly available. Some examples of this would be: public domain images, creative commons music, and open source libraries with appropriate attribution to the original creators. We take this rule very seriously for the sake of all members participating in this event. Failure to comply will result in the offending teams and participants’ disqualification.

 

APIs, Services, and Open Source

The exception to the above rule is that you are encouraged to use 3rd party services, APIs, open-source projects, libraries, and frameworks, etc.

 

Ownership and Intellectual Property

All teams retain full ownership of what they have created during the makeathon. We retain the right to display what you build for the purpose of advertisement. This includes all types of media, both print and not.
