1. Overview

The Shazam for Drones Hackathon (“Hackathon”) is an educational event where teams of participants work together to develop innovative solutions using drone audio data provided by AVSS – Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions Inc. (“AVSS”). By registering or participating, you agree to follow these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”), which may be subject to updates and/or modifications by the organizers before the November 15th, 2025, event.

2. Eligibility

• Participants must be at least 18 years old and legally able to participate in Canada.
• Each participant must be part of a registered team (maximum 10 teams total).

3. Data Use

• The dataset provided by AVSS is to be used only by the teams that participate in the Hackathon.
• Participants may use the AVSS data outside the Hackathon for research and commercialization purposes.
• AVSS is not claiming ownership or compensation for any ideas, code, or results created during and/or after the event.

4. Intellectual Property (IP)

• All IP created during the Hackathon belongs to the team(s) that created it.
• Teams are responsible for deciding how IP is shared, owned, or used after the Hackathon.
• Teams should be aware that the Hackathon is a public event. A confidentiality agreement binds judges, attendees, or other participants.
• This means anything you say or show publicly may be seen, recorded, or reused by others.
• Teams should carefully choose what information they wish to share during their final pitch or discussions.

5. Prizes

• The Hackathon includes a total prize pool of $20,000 CAD, which will be divided among winning teams (1st $10,000, 2nd $6,000, 3rd $1,000, 4th $1,000, 5th $1,000, Best Individual Presenter $1,000), as announced at the event.
• Prizes are awarded at the sole discretion of the organizers and judges.
• The prize pool will be sent to winning teams by e-transfer from RMUS Canada within 10 days of receiving the winning teams’ e-transfer details.

6. Code of Conduct

• All participants must act respectfully and professionally toward others.
• Harassment, discrimination, or disruptive behaviour will not be tolerated and may result in removal from the event.
• Participants must not engage in cheating, plagiarism, or the use of unauthorized materials.
• The organizers have sole discretion on disqualifying teams and/or individual(s) of a team for any perceived breach of the Code of Conduct.

7. Liability and Disclaimer

• The Hackathon is for educational and experimental purposes only.
• Organizers, sponsors, and partners are not responsible for any damages, losses, or injuries that occur during participation.
• Participants are responsible for their own equipment, materials, and safety.
• Participants may be required to sign an additional liability waiver by the organizers during and/or before participating in the event.

8. Media and Publicity

• The event may be photographed, recorded, or streamed.
• By participating, you grant the organizers permission to use your image, name, and project description for promotional or reporting purposes.

9. Privacy

• Personal information collected during registration will only be used for event administration and communication purposes.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the laws of Canada applicable therein. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ottawa, Ontario.
