David Wood

General Manager

Career

David has more than 20 years of experience across all sectors of the construction industry. He joined SHAPE in 2010 as a Site Manager and has since held several positions, including Project Manager, Project Director, and Commercial Manager. David is passionate about building genuine stakeholder relationships and maintaining SHAPE’s renowned constructive culture across the Brisbane and Gold Coast branches. As General Manager of Queensland, he ensures successful project outcomes by motivating his teams to deliver unique and local solutions across all projects.

Life

As an avid gym-goer, David begins most days with a workout. He loves water sports, such as surfing and jet skiing, and in 2012, was stung by an Irukandji jellyfish while on vacation with his family.

Phillip Smith

Career
Phillip brings over 35 years of industry experience, specialising in strategic leadership across Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality and Information Technology. He is one of our longest standing SHAPE members and has delivered major improvements in safety, innovation, and operational excellence through the adoption of technology and the streamlining of administrative processes.

Currently spearheading SHAPE’s sustainability strategy, Phillip is driving initiatives focused on climate change, carbon reduction, and embedding ESG principles into daily operations. He plays an active role in industry advancement as a member of the NSW Asbestos & Hazmat Removal Contractors Association, the Asbestos Education Committee, and the OFSC Industry Reference Group.

Life
Phillip is a Brisbane Broncos supporter, car enthusiast, and enjoys the outdoors, whether it's out on the water or exploring the country. He is a father of two sons and has five grandchildren who make sure the weekends are never quiet.

Gareth Simmons

Career
Gareth brings over 30 years’ experience in the building and construction industry, having begun his career in Sydney as a Carpenter. Since joining SHAPE in 2018, he has progressed from Site Management through senior leadership roles to his current position as QLD Operations Manager.

Widely respected across the business and industry, Gareth takes a hands-on approach and plays an important role in supporting successful project delivery. His strong experience on-the-ground enables him to effectively coordinate teams, resources and programmes, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. Gareth’s practical leadership and deep industry knowledge make him a valuable asset to our QLD business.

Life
Gareth enjoys travel, live music and staying active. He spends a lot of time outdoors, whether that’s walking while listening to audiobooks and podcasts, or heading out on adventure bike rides into the outback with his mates. A family man whose kids have now flown the nest, Gareth also keeps busy by working on his old Queenslander home.

Scott Henderson

Career
Scott has over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry, starting out as a school-based carpentry apprentice in 2002. He then ran his own construction company for several years before transitioning into Project Management. One of his most exciting jobs to date was building theme parks in Malaysia, during this time Scott developed exceptional project and client management skills. Most recently, Scott joined SHAPE in 2022 as Project Director for the Brisbane Team.

Life
Scott is a proud family man with a beautiful wife and two young kids. He loves staying fit, competing in Ironman triathlons, and watching the Brisbane Lions.

Laura Edwards

Client Development Manager

Career
Laura brings a wealth of experience to SHAPE, with a background spanning recruitment, HR and business development roles at Virgin Australia. She also worked as a Sponsorship and Partnership Manager at WIDAC, where she developed and maintained strong relationships with external clients and industry stakeholders.

Since joining SHAPE in 2022, Laura has worked across Business Support and Development, partnering closely with clients to build long-term relationships, understand their needs and align SHAPE’s solutions to deliver successful outcomes. Her collaborative approach, strong communication skills and ability to connect with people have made her a valued contributor to SHAPE’s continued growth in the region.

Life
Laura’s proudest achievement is being a mother to four children. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active through running and strength training, as well as spending quality time with family and friends.

Erin Oxley

Project Director

Career
Erin has been an integral part of the SHAPE Brisbane team since 2016. Starting as an Office Administrator, she became a Cadet before progressing to Project Director. Erin leads her team to deliver successful outcomes for clients, supporting the management of contracts, resourcing and finances while developing our people to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. She specialises in ECI and D&C delivery models and is known for clear communication that builds respect and strong client relationships. Erin has been recognised with two HIA accolades: ‘Exceptional Young Woman of the Year’ and ‘Professional Woman of the Year’. She is also a Founding Director of Women in Design & Construction, advocating for greater opportunities for women in business and the construction industry.

Life
Erin is a devoted mum to her little girl, who she absolutely adores. She also loves adventures and is very travel-oriented; she recently spent half a year camping across Australia in a van with her partner and two Italian Greyhounds, Finn & Gigi. Erin loves spending time with her friends and family.

With over a decade of construction industry experience across a variety of projects and roles, Michael is a valued member of the SHAPE team. He consistently delivers on his commitments to our clients, reflecting his strong focus on exceptional project outcomes and building lasting client relationships. Since joining SHAPE, Michael has been integral to the delivery of several of our hallmark projects across QLD and NSW and brings strong capability in architectural and services design, supported by his extensive study and impressive project portfolio.

Life
Michael enjoys mountain biking, camping, travelling, and spending time with family and friends. He also loves renovating and working on his 1970 Alfa GTV, a passion inherited from his dad's love for Alfa Romeos.

Kate Duggan

With over 10 years’ experience in construction, Kate brings solid expertise in bid and estimating. Highly structured and efficient, Kate excels at managing multiple bids simultaneously while supporting the estimating team and contributing to SHAPE’s broader strategic growth objectives. Known for her ability to cut through complexity and get things done, she is a trusted leader who drives outcomes and keeps momentum across the business.

Life
Kate enjoys travelling, Pilates, good food and wine, and getting out into nature whenever she can. Most of her time is spent chasing after her busy toddler and enjoying family time with their beloved dog, often at the local bowls club. She’s also passionate about giving back, having volunteered on school construction projects in Nepal to help improve local learning environments.

Lorcan has almost 30 years in construction, with over a decade in high-end commercial refurbishments for clients such as Thiess, Shell, TMR and Marriott. He excels in complex, tech-rich projects in operational environments and has managed multi-storey refurbishments, new builds, civil infrastructure, and high-rise developments. Lorcan’s extensive, hands-on experience across multiple facets of construction makes him an invaluable asset to any project. He demonstrates strong leadership capabilities and consistently ensures client requirements are delivered to the highest standards. His strong relationships with landlords, stakeholders, clients and his project teams across Brisbane, support his projects in delivering quality outcomes from preconstruction to delivery on complex projects.”

Life
Lorcan is a dedicated family man who enjoys renovating his home, staying fit, and travelling. He is an avid lover of whiskey and craft beer and never misses an opportunity for a BBQ with friends and family.
