Create Dog Poses with the Changeable 3D Dog Reference Model

June 25, 2025 (Updated: May 6, 2026) by August van de Ven

Are you an artist, animator, or character designer looking for accurate and customizable dog pose references? Look no further than SetPose.com. Our changeable 3D dog model is designed specifically for creatives who need flexibility, realism, and control when referencing dog anatomy and movement.

Whether you're drawing your own dog, or creating other types or art from visual references, you'll know it can be quite hard to find the right reference material. While there may be a lot of images of dogs in simple poses like sitting or lying down, if you're looking for something specific it can be near impossible to find. Besides the fact that these specific poses can be hard to describe, getting an image of the right angle may be even more difficult.

With human figure art the obvious solution is to use a model to pose for you but when drawing a dog, this obviously isn't as easy. This is when a mannequin comes in handy. You've likely already come across one of the wooden, human mannequins that are used by artists and maybe even used an online mannequin but you may not know that there are dog mannequins as well! There unfortunately aren't many options for real-world wooden dog mannequins but there are online versions. These online mannequins may even be more useful as they're able to simulate poses scenarios that aren't possible to recreate in real life. SetPose provides a detailed and easy to use dog mannequin that you can use in your browser.

What Is SetPose’s Dog Model?

SetPose’s dog model is a fully poseable 3D reference tool that allows you to create and view dog poses from any angle. Whether you're drawing, sculpting, or animating, the model is perfect for visualizing anatomy, motion, and proportions before committing to your artwork.

How It Works

The SetPose scene starts off with a basic model. In order to add the dog model to the scene, either change the basic model to the dog model in the scene menu or add the dog model by clicking the "add model" button.

Using the interface you can now simply click and drag the dog’s joints to create your desired pose. Use the controls on the left side of the screen to turn or rotate the model's limbs in different directions.

Fine-tune angles, lighting, and positioning until you get the perfect reference or pick one of the preset poses to quickly get started with your work. You can zoom in, change the camera and lighting settings, screenshot or save your pose for later use. If you're looking to create a more dynamic scene, you can also combine the dog model with different human models or environmental props like a tree or sofa.

Why Artists Use SetPose's Dog Reference Model

Artists often struggle with inconsistent reference photos and stiff stock poses. It's hard to find the perfect reference for a scene you have in mind and this is especially difficult for scenes including animals like dogs. You could create the reference scene yourself, using real subjects but when it comes to animals, it can be near impossible to get them to pose to your liking.

With SetPose, you control the scene: use sitting, standing, running, jumping poses to create dynamic scenes with precision and full control over the environment. It’s especially useful for:
