A Legacy of Integrity
Our Story
Max O. Sessions founded the company in Winston-Salem after four years of service in the US Army Air Force. He was a brilliant and honorable family man who led many industry changes in wholesale distribution—yet he never wavered from the foundation he built: be truthful with all concerned, be honest and accurate in every transaction, and value your customers as your partners.
Steve Sessions joined his father in 1974 and began establishing exclusive brands of high-quality general merchandise, expanding distribution routes throughout the Southeast and Appalachian region. Successful long-term relationships with domestic manufacturers led Sessions Specialty Company to be selected by many U.S. factories to distribute their health and beauty care, automotive, and convenience store products nationally.
Ben Sessions came aboard to give solid direction to the company’s future. He had the privilege of working alongside his grandfather before Max passed at 99 in 2013. Ben has successfully broadened the company’s range of distribution—adding new product categories and proprietary brands—while staying focused on what has always mattered most: the best service and products for our customers’ success.

From a post-war startup in downtown Winston-Salem to a 65,000 sq ft distribution center serving partners across more than 20 states, here are the milestones that shaped who we are.
1946
Max O. Sessions founds Sessions Specialty Company in Winston-Salem, NC after serving in the US Army Air Force during WWII.
1950s
SSC flourishes as a wholesale distributor of diamonds, jewelry, and general merchandise.
1960s
Distribution expands into general merchandise, OTC, health & beauty, automotive, and everyday home goods.
1970
First retail stores open under the Keymid wholesale membership club—pioneering the membership warehouse model.
1974
Steve Sessions joins the company, driving expansion of wholesale routes throughout the Southeast and Appalachian region.
1990s
SSC trademarks the Buffalo brand of work gloves and the Parade brand of home products and light bulbs.
1994
SSC outgrows downtown Winston-Salem and moves to a 65,000 sq ft facility in Lewisville, NC.
2003
Ben Sessions joins SSC, expanding the wholesale footprint and bringing new product lines into new segments.
2010s
SSC acquires the Cloud 9 Incense brand and launches the Blaze Lighter and Blaze Butane brands as exclusive importer and distributor.
2019
Major warehouse upgrades increase capacity, efficiency, and order accuracy for wholesale partners.
2026
SSC celebrates 80 years of distribution to wholesale partners across more than 20 states.
