Errata: Vantage and Cancel in Radiant Dawn

This was brought to my attention by Kalen87 from the Radiant Dawn + mod.

For nearly two decades, Vantage and Cancel have been listed with the wrong activation rates in Radiant Dawn. They’re listed as Speed%, when it should be Skill%.

The video above outlines the way I tested it.

I modified Edward’s stats so he has 99 Skill, 0 in everything else, neutral Biorhythm and the Vantage and Cancel skills. In every relevant battle, he triggered those skills. But when I gave him 99 Speed instead, those skills stopped working.

Just in case, Adept is Speed% as originally listed.

Also, thanks to Vicious Sal for digging through the game code to confirm my findings.

Now the question becomes, how did this mistake happen? It’s hard to pinpoint because it’s been so long. But there’s probably two key factors.

One, I need to find them again, but from what I remember, the guidebooks listed those two skills as being Speed%. Since nobody knew how to hack skills back then, nobody thought to question the guidebooks.

Two, most characters with high Speed also have high Skill. So most players wouldn’t really notice the difference. You’d need to use someone like Haar who has high Skill but low Speed.

Heroes: 9th Anniversary and CYL 10 Winners

Today marks the 9th anniversary of Fire Emblem Heroes!

9 years is no mean feat. Even most of Nintendo’s other mobile games struggled to survive even half as long.

To celebrate, there’s all kinds of events and rewards, which you can learn about from the red-bowtie-wearing Feh.

The biggest news is probably the winners of this year’s Choose Your Legends.

For the newly added Shadows Cup, the winners are Dimitri, Claude, Edelgard and Tsubusa & Caeda. More results here.

For the regular Choose Your Legends, the winners are Sylvain, Sigurd, Tsubasa & Caeda and Azura. More results here.

Unsurprisingly, the House Leaders are as popular as ever! A double congratulations to Tsubasa and Caeda for winning both the Shadows Cup and the regular CYL. I’d love to hear the phone calls between Nintendo and Atlus right now…

Sylvain performed well last year and this year he managed to surpass his rivals, Fomortiis and the Black Knight. Meanwhile, Sigurd and Azura were 3rd place winners last year, so they didn’t have much competition, although Ivy wasn’t that far behind (sorry, Engage fans).

Update: The 9th anniversary illustrations shown in the Feh Channel can also be viewed here.

Heroes: Choose Your Legends, Shadows Cup & Round 10

It’s that time of the year again!

…Whoa, is this really the 10th time?

This year, there’s a change. Between 18th January and 22nd January (PST), you can vote in the new Choose Your Legends: Shadows Cup.

The 1st ranked Hero of each 4 movement types will have their Shadows version added to Heroes.

For most Heroes, their movement type is pretty self-explanatory. But there are a few deviations, like Sakura from Fates being a Flier, Samson from New Mystery being an Armour and Julia from Genealogy being a Flier. Presumably to increase the variety.

In addition, Lyn is ineligible for voting, since her Shadows version is already in the game. Characters from Shadows also can’t be voted for.

Last but not least, the regular Choose Your Legends: Round 10 will be available between 22nd January and 29th January (PST).

Characters from Shadows (total 17) will be eligible for voting.

Path of Radiance Available on Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Music

First teased back in April 2025, Path of Radiance is finally available on the Nintendo Switch 2’s GameCube app, for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass subscribers.

Update: On the 12th, they finally added the trailer on YouTube. Previously, you could only watch it from the Nintendo Switch 2.

The original game came out over 20 years and it’s also where our namesake comes from.

In addition, the Path of Radiance soundtrack is now available on the Nintendo Music app for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. All 64 tracks from the game’s sound room are represented. Be sure to listen to “Life Returns!”
