Education Support (Veterans Affairs Canada and National Defense)
Veterans Affairs Canada Education and Training Benefit
Honorably released from the Canadian Armed Forces on or after April 1, 2006, or been a member of the Supplementary Reserve with at least:
- 6 years (2,191 paid days), which will allow you to receive up to $50,569.97*
- 12 years (4,382 paid days), which will allow you to receive up to $101,139.94*
If you have been released between April 1, 2006 and March 31, 2018, you can access funding until April 1, 2028. Otherwise, you have 10 years from your release date (or transfer to the Supplementary Reserve).
All of our courses fall into the Formal Program Fundings.
Veterans cannot receive this funding while participating in Veterans Affairs Canada’s (VAC) Rehabilitation Services and Vocational Assistance Program or while receiving the Canadian Forces Income Support Allowance.
*Amount indexed annually based on the Consumer Price Index 2026. These are taxable.
Federal educational support for military personnel, veterans, and their families
For active duty military personnel and reservists
- Tuition refund (CAF): up to 50% of covered costs, for a maximum of $2,000 per year ($8,000 lifetime).
- Skills development: up to $5,400 over two years for Regular Force military personnel with at least 10 years of service.
- Student reservists: option to defer repayment of their federal student loan when participating in a designated operation.
For families
- Children's education: tuition fees and monthly allowance for children of veterans who have died as a result of their service or are severely disabled.
- Professional assistance for partners and survivors: support in developing new skills, undertaking training, and re-entering the workforce.
For the entire military community
- Rehabilitation and Vocational Assistance Services (RVAS): medical, psychosocial, and professional support to facilitate the transition to civilian life.
- VAC Help Line: free and confidential psychological support, available 24/7, for veterans, military personnel, families, and caregivers.

Scholarships for Veterans

PPC (Pilot Proficiency Check) ScholarshipCovers the costs associated with the PPC module, an essential step in our modular and ACS programs leading to a Commercial Pilot License – Helicopter (CPL-H).
Includes: 30 hours of theory and 5 hours of flight time on a Robinson R44. - Flight Instructor Rating Scholarship Offered to graduates of our CPL (airplane or helicopter) and ATPL programs. This rating allows you to share your expertise and begin a rewarding and sought-after career as an instructor in aviation.
Medical Certificate
- Category 1 medical certificate (for training leading to a commercial pilot license)
- Category 3 medical certificate (for training leading to a private pilot license)

Tailor-Made Flight Training Programs for Veterans
Located at the Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport, Select Aviation College has had the privilege of guiding many veterans in their transition from military to civilian life, whether learning to fly a plane or a helicopter. We offer tailor-made piloting programs that lead to licenses for careers as airline pilots, bush pilots, or helicopter pilots. As a Canadian designated institution, all our flight training programs are eligible for funding from Veterans Affairs Canada.
College programs
Commercial Air Transport Pilot – Integrated ATPL (EWA.1F): This ACS offers the highest level of pilot licensing, integrating advanced flight training with rigorous academic coursework (offered in English).
Commercial Air Transport Pilot – Airplane (EWA.16): A fast-track ACS for those aiming for a commercial pilot career, providing comprehensive training and additional Transport Canada ratings (offered in English).
Commercial Air Transport Pilot – Bush (EWA.18): Designed for mastering seaplane flight, this ACS includes 230 flight hours, with 50 hours dedicated to seaplane training, preparing graduates for immediate employment in bush flying (offered in English).
Commercial Air Transport Pilot – Helicopter (EWA.1G): Combining academic rigor with 135 hours of flight time on Robinson R44 and Bell 206 helicopters, this ACS offers a comprehensive helicopter pilot education (offered in English).
Veteran Pilot Pathway
- Private Pilot License (PPL): Airplane (PPL a) or Helicopter (PPL h)
- Commercial Pilot License (CPL): Airplane (CPL a) or Helicopter (CPL h)
- Additional Ratings: IFR Renewal, Night Rating, Flight Instructor Rating
- Ratings to fly extra aircraft: Seaplane, Airplane, Helicopter
