I want to model the Progressive Collapse of a two-dimensional shear wall. It is necessary to split the wall to remove a part of the wall. In modeling, I have modeled the boundary element with a column. If I divide the wall into two parts or four I get different results. What is the reason?

Answer by Robert Polubinski

I've found something about the SeismoStruct and wall reinforcing, but nothing regarding the divided shear wall. According to a discussion found on the official forums, you will have to try the boundary elements to make it easier to perform the divide operation.

Here is the discussion, in case you want to learn more and if you're at that website, create a post and state your issue and someone with more expertise will provide the answer: http://seismosoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=11036&sid=b14a5206d315ebe47f2e38bbfb884d9f

I have a 25 story model and I want to check it under Time History Dynamic Analysis. It needs 27 days to complete the analysis. What can I do?

Answer by Pete Clapp

A 25 story model takes much time to be analyzed. Usually, this type of analyzes are made on 5-6 story buildings. To reduce the process, you will need to upgrade your computer. Even so, you will need to be very patient in order to complete the analysis process. The recommended requirements for SeismoStruct are:

  • Operating System: Windows 7, Windows Vista or Windows XP SP 3;
  • RAM Memory: 2GB;
  • Free HDD Space: 1GB;
  • Screen Resolution: 1024x768 or higher.
